It’s a five-peat for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the weekend box office

The weekend box office wasn’t too exciting as the top five was a repeat from the previous weekend. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever did it again taking the top of the box office. The movie grossed $11.1 million over the weekend bringing its total gross to $409.8 million. Over the week, the film grossed $18.7 million to bring its international gross to $358 million. Worldwide, the movie has earned $767.8 million.

In second place was Violent Night which grossed just under $8.7 million. The movie has grossed $26.7 million at the domestic box office. Over the week, the movie grossed about $8 million internationally where it has now grossed $15.1 million. Worldwide, the movie stands at $41.8 million.

Strange World came in third with $3.6 million. The movie has earned $30.5 million so far at the domestic box office. Internationally, the film added about $6.2 million to its total to bring that to $23 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $53.5 million.

The Menu was fourth with an estimated $2.7 million. The film has grossed a little over $29 million domestically. Over the week, the film grossed about $6.2 million to bring that to $28.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has earned $57.7 million.

Rounding out the top five was Devotion which earned just under $2 million. It has grossed just under $17 million at the domestic box office so far. The movie also earned about $448,000 internationally over the week where it now has grossed $552,917. Worldwide, the film stands at $17.5 million.

In comic film news…

Black Adam improved one spot with an estimated $1.3 million to bring its domestic total up to just under $166.9 million. Over the week, the film added about $3 million internationally to bring that to $222 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $388.9 million.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time debuted at #16 for the weekend with $280,550. Domestically, it has grossed $755,267. Internationally, the film has already grossed $92.9 million for a worldwide gross of $93.7 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 54 films earning $37,644,613 from 32,938 theaters. That’s a drop of near 25% from last weekend’s $52,626,631 from 32,607 theaters and 52 films. The average earning was $1,142.89 this past weekend, a little more than half of last weekend’s $1,613.97.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was the top of the weekend box office again in its fourth week of release. The film grossed an estimated $17.6 million bringing its domestic gross to $393.7 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $31.4 million to bringing its total to $339.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has earned a little over $733 million in its first month.

Violent Night debuted in second place with $13.3 million and an international gross of $7.1 million. Worldiwde, the total is $20.4 million.

Strange World dipped to third with $4.9 million to lift its domestic gross to $25.5 million. Internationally, the film added $7.6 million over the week to bring that to $16.8 million and $42.3 million after two weeks.

The Menu improved moving into fourth place from last week’s fifth with $3.6 million. Domestically the film has earned $24.7 million. Over the week, it added $7.7 million to its international total to bring that to $22.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $47.2 million.

Devotion wrapped up the top five with just under $2.8 million. Domestically the film has grossed $13.8 million after two weeks. Internationally, the film has earned $104,674 for a worldwide total to $13.9 million.

Black Adam slipped one spot to seventh place, the first weekend out of the top five, with an estimated $1.7 million to bring its domestic total up to just under $165.2 million. Over the week, the film added about $3.9 million internationally to bring that to $219 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $384.2 million.

Numbers have 52 films earning $52,626,631 from 32,607 theaters. That’s a drop of near 50% from last weekend’s $94,269,687 from 32,315 theaters and 48 films. The average earning was $1,613.97 this past weekend, a little more than half of last weekend’s $2,917.21.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever apparently didn’t face much competition as it walked away with the top of the weekend box office by a mile and then some. The film was the top film for the third weekend in a row adding $45.9 million to its domestic total bringing that to $367.7 million. Over the week, the movie added $49.6 million to lift its international total to $307.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $675.6 million. The film is #6 for domestic gross of this year’s films and will likely be in third by the end of the week. Internationally, the film is #7 and might move up a spot this week as well.

In second place was Strange World which grossed $11.9 million over the weekend. Opening earlier in the week, the film has grossed $18.6 million domestically so far. Internationally, the film has $9.2 million for a worldwide first week of $27.8 million.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery opened in third place with a $9.4 million weekend. The film has grossed $13.3 million total this week domestically. There’s no international numbers.

Devotion wrapped up the trio of new films with a weekend just under $6 million. Over the week it has grossed $9 million total. It too has no international gross to report.

Wrapping up the top five was The Menu with an estimated $5.2 million. Domestically the film has grossed $18.7 million. Over the week, it added $8.6 million to its international total to bring that to $14.8 million for a worldwide total of $33.5 million.

The film also saw an earlier, and controversial, digital release for the holiday. Over the week, the film added about $5.9 million internationally to bring that to $215.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $378.1 million.
