Neil Gaiman’s Dead Boy Detectives goes from Max to Netflix

Warner Bros. Discovery continues to spread its original programming around most likely to close the gap of its debt from the merger and the latest example is the comic turned television show Dead Boy Detectives. Originally planned for HBO Max (now Max), the series is a go at Netflix.

Dead Boy Detectives is based on a DC Comics series with characters created by Neil Gaiman. Gaiman’s beloved creation of The Sandman, also a comic series published by DC, also aired on Netflix to praise. Dead Boy Detectives‘ move to the streaming platform makes sense as fans of The Sandman would likely be interested in this series as well. It’ll be much easier to recommend this show to those viewers and get them to come back.

Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. Meet Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), “the brains” and “the brawn” behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts… who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together: including escaping evil witches, Hell, and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.

Dead Boy Detectives will run for 8 episodes and is part of its “Sandman universe.” While no specific premiere date has been announced, the series is expected to debut in 2024.
