Gou Tanabe’s manga adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror gets a Deluxe Edition for English Audiences

No one in the small town of Dunwich knew who young Wilbur Whateley’s father was—or that the hideous outcast boy was the most dangerous sorcerer alive. Now, Dark Horse Manga will bring Gou Tanabe’s adaptation of the cosmic horror tale to English audiences in H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror Deluxe Edition. Adapted into English by Zack Davisson, translator of the two-time Eisner Award-winning Showa: A History of Japan by Shigeru Mizuki, and lettered by the Eisner-nominated Steve Dutro. 

The horror was born before dawn on February 2, 1913—the feast of Candlemas, although the people of Dunwich call that ancient festival by a different name. Of unknown father, Wilbur Whateley was not christened—yet he descended still from a once-proud Puritan family that left Salem in 1692 to found Dunwich, Massachusetts. 

Dr. Henry Armitage, head librarian at Miskatonic University, drives the dusty, rutted roads out to Dunwich to meet the child prodigy with whom he has been corresponding on the most abstruse and disturbing lore. Dr. Armitage can hardly believe the sight of the priceless hoard of occult books rotting away in the Whateley farmhouse—nor that of the dark, goatish Wilbur, for whom those books have been his only education.

Shirow Masamune’s stories receive a Three-Book Deluxe Edition Treatment from Dark Horse Manga

Dark Horse Manga presents Shirow Masamune’s classics in a three-book Deluxe Edition manga series, starting with Appleseed Deluxe Edition. The series will also include the Appleseed Companion Deluxe Edition, and additional works by Shirow within the Shirow Masamune Anthology Deluxe Edition. 

Translated by Dana Lewis, Toren Smith, and Duane Johnson, lettered by Tom Orzechowski, L. Lois Buhalis, John Clark, and Sasquatch, the Appleseed Deluxe Edition collects Books One through Four of Appleseed, and will feature a wraparound, seven-color artwork cover, metallic, edge-gilded pages, and four-color end sheets along with a sewn-in bookmark. This new Deluxe Edition collection will be available starting in August 2026, and it’s recommended that fans and retailers pre-order now to secure copies. Dates and additional details for the Companion and Anthology will be provided soon.

Dark Horse is releasing Oldboy in a Deluxe Edition Format

Dark Horse Manga has revealed that the next manga series to receive the Deluxe Edition oversized (7×10”) hardcover treatment will be Oldboy, by the legendary duo of writer Garon Tsuchiya and artist Nobuaki Minegishi. The intense, bare-knuckle manga will be collected into new volumes, Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book One and Book Two. Winner of the 2007 Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material, Oldboy is lettered by Michael David Thomas and Kathryn Renta, and translated by Kumar Sivasubramanian.

Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book One collects the original volumes 1-4, and Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book Two collects original volumes 5-8 of the mystery thriller, now packaged together in a sleek, deluxe hardcover format and features a new, noir-inspired cover made with metallic silver foil paper, and includes a ribbon bookmarker.

Dark Horse Manga continues to present new collections of the nostalgic, irreverent manga Gunsmith Cats with Gunsmith Cats Burst Omnibus editions. Gunsmith Cats is a story about Rally, a gun shop owner, and Minnie-May, her demolitions expert (and former call girl) partner-in-eradicating-crime, and their quest to turn their “hobby” of rounding up the most wanted men and women in Chicago into a lucrative career–while looking sharp! Gunsmith Cats Burst Omnibus Volume 1 arrives in December 2025, and Gunsmith Cats Burst Omnibus Volume 2 arrives in March 2026. Rally and ace transporter Bean Bandit find themselves well outside city limits—and deep in the heart of Texas. Custody battles can get nasty—but rarely as vicious as the situation Rally and Minnie-May are caught up in.
