Christian Mitchell, Illinois’ Next Lt. Governor and “Comic Book Nerd”
Politicians that are comic fans and wear their fandom proudly isn’t anything new. Recently, Kat Abughazaleh used comics to introduce herself to people in her district in a Congressional campaign. Congressman Robert Garcia is not only a comic fan but launched the Congressional Popular Arts Caucus. Patrick Leahy is a Batman fan and appeared in multiple films and shows. Marvel’s former owner Ike Perlmutter was part of the Trump administration. President Obama was a well known comic fan. There’s also lots of comics about politics itself and of course politics impact the comic industry.
Now, Christian Mitchell who is running for Lt. Governor in Illinois has released a video stating he’s a “comic book nerd.” The video is entertaining and humanizes Mitchell in a very relatable way. The video called “POV: Your next lieutenant governor is a comic book nerd” has Mitchell being shown some comics and his reactions are great.
Superheroes inspire me: ordinary people given a gift who then fight to make the world a better place…
Mitchell served a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from the 26th district. He was first elected to the position in 2012 and began to serve in 2013 and served until 2019. He resigned the position to work for the administration of Governor J.B. Pritzker. On July 1, 2025, Governor Pritzker announced that Mitchell would be his running mate in the 2026 election after incumbent Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton announced she would instead run for US Senate.
