Archie’s “Cult of That Wilkin Boy” grows stronger!

The classic Archie Comics character Bingo Wilkin gained an all-too terrifying new fandom in last year’s The Cult of That Wilkin Boy comic from the Archie Horror imprint. This April, we follow Bingo’s terrifying journey into the depths of fame with a new installment, Chilling Adventures Presents… The Cult of That Wilkin Boy: Initiation.

The original creative team, horror comics master Cullen Bunn and artist Dan Schoening, will reunite to pick up where we left off: Bingo, having dallied with infernal forces and gained the upper hand (for now!), is at the height of his power. But instead of basking in the glow of his evil cult following, he’s recruiting innocent souls for a dark project as a music manager. What happened to his dreams of rock superstardom, and can he somehow find a way back?

Bingo first appeared in 1968’s That Wilkin Boy #1, launching a fan-favorite spinoff to the core Archie titles that ran for 14 years, with the hook of a popular teenage rock band. The new series of Wilkin Boy horror one-shots takes the opportunity of that wholesome starting point to explore the dark side of clout-chasing ambition and fame, in the chilling milieu of satanic cults.

The Cult of That Wilkin Boy: Initiation, with an open-to-order variant cover by Robert Hack, inks by Ben Galvan, colors by Matt Herms and lettering by Jack Morelli, releases April 24.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

The Expanse: The Dragon Tooth #1

Wednesdays (and Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Abolition of Work (Floating World Comics) – Bob Black’s essay from 1985 gets a graphic adaptation.

All Eight Eyes #1 (Dark Horse) Jaws meets Arachnophobia in a new vision of creature-feature terror.

Avengers Assemble Omega #1 (Marvel) – It’s the finale to the epic Avengers storyline!

The Boxer Vol. 2 (VIZ Media) – Though the story is about boxing, there’s so much focus on psychology and the characters, boxing is secondary. Watch our review.

Cult of That Wilkin Boy (Archie Comics) – Archie has been putting out some great horror comics and we’re excited to see what this musician gone wrong tale brings.

Darkwing Duck #4 (Dynamite Entertainment) – We’re big fans of the series which picks up on the classic and beloved animated series.

The Expanse: The Dragon Tooth #1 (BOOM! Studios) – Fans of The Expanse won’t want to miss this series which fills in gaps of the television series.

Harrower #3 (BOOM! Studios) – The horror series has been fantastic with a nice mix of modern slasher classics and a modern sensibility and style.

The Mighty Barbarians #1 (Ablaze) – It’s classic fantasy with a modern sensibility about it. Check out our review!

Soko #1 (Sumerian Comics) – A routine traffic stop for two Serbian beat cops quickly descends into corruption and betrayal as a dark trail of evidence leads to the discovery of unimaginable depravity. Sounds like the out of control cop story we enjoy.

Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow #1 (DC Comics) – The Superman family memeber gets the spotlight in this series as Connor heads out on his own.

Terrorwar #1 (Image Comics) – Blue City was the last livable place on Earth. Now it’s crawling with Terrors-creatures that transform into their victims’ worst fears. Humanity’s last hope? Muhammad Cho and his overworked, underpaid crew of freelance Terrorfighters.

Archie’s “That Wilkin Boy” returns in a new horror comic

The cult-favorite Archie Comics character Bingo Wilkin is getting a modern revival through a more sinister type of cult in Chilling Adventures Presents… The Cult of That Wilkin Boy, a one-shot comic from the Archie Horror imprint releasing in April.

In a book-length solo story, horror comics master Cullen Bunn and artist Dan Schoening tell a chilling tale of fame and fandom gone wrong when rock star Bingo is offered a demonic deal he can’t refuse. Of course, it doesn’t go exactly the way crossroads exchanges usually do in traditional folklore.

Bingo first appeared in 1968’s That Wilkin Boy #1, launching a fan-favorite spinoff to the core Archie titles that ran for 14 years. Bingo was the cousin of Riverdale’s Jughead Jones and lived in nearby Midvale, where he led a band called The Bingoes. In the new horror one-shot, Bunn and Schoening take the concept of Bingo as an iconoclastic hipster musician and update it for a terrifying tale of clout-chasing ambition and powerful cults.

The Cult of That Wilkin Boy, with an open-to-order variant cover by Robert Hack, inks by Ben Galvan, colors by Matt Herms and lettering by Jack Morelli, releases April 19 in comic shops nationwide.
