Meet the Black Badges, a top-secret branch of boy scouts tasked by the government to take on covert missions that no adult ever could. Among their organization, the Black Badges are the elite—the best of the best. The missions they’re tasked with are dangerous, and will only get worse as their leader’s attention is split between their objective and tracking down a lost team member. A member who disappeared years ago…presumed dead.

Reuniting New York Times bestselling author Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) and illustrator Tyler Jenkins (Peter Panzerfaust) following their multiple Eisner Award-nominated series Grass Kings, Black Badge is a haunting look at foreign policy, culture wars, and isolationism through the lens of kids who know they must fix the world that adults have broken.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

Wednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez & the Freshman Force: Who Dis? (Devil’s Due Comics) – We’re a sucker for these types of comics and we’ll admit the political nerds in us are really interested in seeing exactly what’s within the pages of this issue.

All-Time Comics Zerosis Deathscape #0 (Floating World Comics) – An all-new five issue miniseries and if it’s like the previous releases, we’re psyched. This superhero world is a mix of modern and classic and just a lot of pulp action fun.

Black Badge #10 (BOOM! Studios) – One of the best comics on the market, it’s a twisted take on a Boy Scouts like group that’s used to recruit and train young assassins. You can learn more about the history of the program here!

Fathom Vol. 8 #1 (Aspen Comics) – Aspen has been hit and miss lately with a few false starts over the years but they seem to be more focused this time and we’re excited to see if this new volume reflects a renewed Aspen.

Giant-Man #1 (Marvel) – The many individuals who have used that name come together in this War of the Realms tie-in and we’re kind of excited for it.

Last Stop on the Red Line #1 (Dark Horse) – A supernatural crime story from Paul Maybury and Sam Lotfi that has us really intrigued to check it out.

Marvel Action: Spider-Man #4 (IDW Publishing) – IDW’s Marvel line has been great for kids and each issue a lot of fun. So, check it out, especially if you’re looking for comics for kids.

Planet of the Nerds #2 (AHOY Comics) – The first issue was funny and AHOY packs so much in each and every issue they put out. Just a great value for your dollar.

Science Comics: Cars, Engines that Move You (First Second) – First Second’s graphic novels in this line are fantastic if you want to learn more about the topic. This is solid for kids and adults who want to learn.

War of the Realms #4/War of the Realms: Spider-Man & the League of Realms #1/War of the Realms: Strikeforce – War Avengers #1 (Marvel) – We’re suckers for this, we’ll be honest. The event has been very hit and miss but we’re hoping it turns around. It has to, right?

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

Assassin Nation #2 (Image Comics) – The first issue was just some solid uber violence and a lot of fun. How to prevent getting assassinated? By hiring the best assassins to protect you!

Black Badge #9 (BOOM! Studios) – Have you been reading this series which is basically the Scouts as assassins? No? This could be a good issue to start and check out.

Major X #2 (Marvel) – The first issue was divisive but we’d be lying if we didn’t want to see where Rob Liefeld’s latest X-Universe entry was going.

Planet of the Nerds #1 (AHOY Comics) – AHOY always delivers a fun read. This series takes jocks and transports them to modern times where nerds rule! There’s a lot of potential for this one.

Transformers #3 (IDW Publishing) – While not as good as the previous volume, we really want to see the build up to the Civil War and what Cybertron was like before all of that.

Uncanny X-Men #16 (Marvel) – The last issue shook up a lot and at this point we have no idea where this is all going. So good.

War of the Realms #2/War of the Realms: The Punisher #1/War of the Realms: War Scrolls #1 (Marvel) – While we haven’t been too hyped so far for this event, we’re still curious as to where it goes and what the tie-in miniseries bring to the story.

Xena: Warrior Princess #1 (Dynamite) – We’re always excited to see the popular character return to comics.

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

Black Badge #7 (BOOM! Studios) – The Badge of Champions reaches its blood conclusion! This series takes the concept of Scouts to a whole new level.

Go-Bots #4 (IDW Publishing) – Tom Scioli continues to rock this series which brings the classic property back with childlike fun.

High Level #1 (DC Comics/Vertigo) – The latest Vertigo release, written by Rob Sheridan with art by Barnaby Bagenda and Romulo Fajardo takes a look at a future society built from scratch and hopefully delivers the social commentary we’d expect from Vertigo.

Hulkverines #1 (Marvel) – Every time we’ve expected little from this concept it not only surprised us but blew us away.

Incursion #1 (Valiant) – It’s the Geomancer and Eternal Warrior standing against an invasion.

Letter to Survivors (New York Review Comics) – A graphic novel that follows a postal worker on his bizarre mail route in a post-apocalyptic world.

Naomi #2 (DC Comics/Wonder Comics) – The first issue set up an interesting mystery in the DC universe and we want to see where it goes.

Sharkey Bounty Hunter #1 (Image Comics/Millarworld) – With Millar’s Netflix deal, we want to see what properties are being created.

Stronghold #1 (AfterShock Comics) – From writer Phil Hester and artist Ryan Kelly, the concept is intriguing. Our planet is actually a prison designed to shelter and trap an amnesiac alien of incalculable power.

Wolverine: Infinity Watch #1 (Marvel) – Now we can finally find out what the hell is going on.

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

It’s a short week of releases with the holiday and you can get every single issue for under $50! So, instead of picking which you should get, we’re doing something a little bit different with going over what they are and why you should check out each release!

Adventure Time: Marcy & Simon #1 (BOOM! Studios/KaBOOM!) – BOOM! Studios is continuing the world of Adventure Time after the series finale. Marceline and Simon are reunited and Simon must make amends for his time as Ice King.

Appalachian Apocalypse #1 (Cave Pictures Publishing) – The spiritually focused comic line launches with this series and we’re intrigued to see how it is and if they can do for spiritual comics like has been done with religious focused films.

Avatar: Tsu Teys Path #1 (Dark Horse Comics) – Avatar is a weird film and world that was such a breakthrough and didn’t go anywhere. Years later we’re getting sequels and it’ll be interesting to see how the comics build towards that.

The Batman Who Laughs #2 (DC Comics) – The breakout star of Dark Knights: Metal is back and he’s brought a friend. The first issue is solid and we’re so excited to see where this series goes.

Black Badge #6 (BOOM! Studios) – This series has been fantastic so far with its twisted take on the Boy Scouts and spy type stories.

Black Widow #1 (Marvel) – We’re a bit mixed on this first issue but it’s nice to see Black Widow back in her own series and it eventually gets to an interesting place. There’s just enough fun moments to check this one out.

Conan the Barbarian #2 (Marvel) – The first issue was fantastic and we’re expecting no less from this issue. A hell of a series debut for 2019.

Fantastic Four #6 (Marvel) – Last issue’s wedding actually happened! Now, we’ve got both Doctor Doom and Galactus to deal with. It’s old school Fantastic Four fun!

Goddess Mode #2 (DC Comics/Vertigo) – The first issue was a blend of tech/fantasy/magical girl and it worked really well. We want to see where it all goes in this second issue.

The Invaders #1 (Marvel) – Marvel is celebrating 80 years with this series and more! The series focuses on the Invaders both in World War II and today as Namor has a plan that’s been brewing and Captain America, Bucky, and the original Human Torch need to stop him.

Marvel Comics Presents #1 (Marvel) – 31 years has gone by since this series first debuted and we’re as excited to get this in our hands as we were back then. Three solid short stories to entertain.

Uncanny X-Men #10 (Marvel) – The end of “X-Men Disassembled” and it’s not what you think!
