SDCC 2019: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and “The Squad” are a Superhero Team Fighting Racism and Corruption
Devil’s Due Comics unveiled a two-pronged surprise on Saturday at San Diego’s Comic-Con: 1) there will be a second volume of its now-infamous AOC comic, and 2) the issue — entitled Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: The Squad Special — will depict all four members of The House of Representatives’ ‘Squad’ (AOC, Omar, Pressley, Tlaib) as a racism and corruption-fighting superhero team.
The issue will have a December 2019 release and is available for pre-order at OcasioComic.com as of Saturday. Devil’s Due is eager to partner with comic book retailers in the coming weeks, for a series of variant Special Squad covers. The current edition (cover subtitled ‘We’re Not Going Anywhere!’) will have a portion of proceeds donated to Raices Texas, a non-profit that provides legal services to immigrants and refugees for immigration protections. The alternate-cover version (subtitled ‘We’re Not Going Anywhere, Motherfucker!’) is limited to 500 copies, with the entirety of its proceeds donated to immigration charities President Trump will most certainly hate.
The upcoming sequel will see AOC and her fellow ‘Squad’ members engage in a series of super-heroic mini-adventures, as they take on President Trump and the GOP establishment from within.
