Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom tops a rough holiday weekend box office
Maybe the weekend box office will be saved by Christmas Day, but Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom debuted in first place with am anemic $28.1 million. Its domestic box office currently stands at $40 million. The international gross wasn’t much better with $80.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $120.1 million.
The first Aquaman opened with $67.9 million domestically and would go on to earn $335.1 million domestically and $1.152 billion worldwide. Like many previous blockbusters, the sequel struggled in its opening weekend and will likely stumble for its run. Welcome to the post-Covid box office.
Wonka slipped to second place with an estimated $17.7 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $83.6 million after two weeks. Internationally, the film added $58.9 million over the week to bring that total to $171.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $254.9 million.
Migration opened in third place with $12.3 million for a domestic total of $17.1 million and international total of just under $22 million for a worldwide total of a little over $32 million.
Anyone But You opened in fourth with $6.2 million for a domestic total of $8.8 million. No international total has been reported.
Salaar rounded out the top five debuting with $5.5 million domestically for a total of $6.3 million at the domestic box office. No international total has been reported.
In comic film news…
The Marvels added an estimated $75,000 to its domestic total to bring that to a little over $84.5 million. Things are going a bit better internationally where the film added $1.3 million over the week to bring it to $120.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $205.1 million.
The week’s overall box office success…
Numbers have 42 films earning $91,027,569 from 32,099 theaters. That’s an improvement from the previous weekend’s $75,975,634 from 35,513 theaters and 56 films. The average earning was $2,835.84 which is about a third more than the previous weekend’s $2,139.38.
