The voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, has passed away
News broke this morning that Kevin Conroy, most known for voicing Batman has passed away. Actor Diane Pershing posted on Facebook that Conroy passed away yesterday after a prolonged illness.
Conroy attended Julliard after which he toured in numerous productions. He went on to appear in numerous television films and series but is best known as voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne in the groundbreaking Batman: The Animated Series which debuted in 1992. He’d go on to voice the character for three decades in animated films, television series, and video games. He’d go on to play a live action Bruce Wayne on Batwoman in the crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.
In 2022, Conroy wrote a piece for DC Comics’ Pride comic, “Finding Batman” described as a “personal story” with art by J. Bone and Aditya Bidikar. The story recounted his life and experiences as a gay man. While “out” for years, this was the first time many found out Conroy was gay.
For a generation Conroy is their Batman delivering an iconic performance that won’t be matched and will be missed.
