Review: The Ink Witch

The Ink Witch

As human beings, we search for our own individual identity from the time we’re born. We often find people, places, and objects to lose ourselves in. As a way to show our connections, somebody might wear a shirt, buy merchandise, or write fanfiction to show our devotion. The world has progressed in their views of everything. Such taboo forms of art, like tattoos, are increasingly becoming accepted in society.

As anyone who can attest that has gotten a tattoo, finding a tattoo artist is just as important as figuring what tattoo you choose to adorn your body. As someone who has gotten multiple tattoos, I can tell you that your connection to your tattoo artist is important. I always wondered what happens when one falls for that person? In The Ink Witch, this very question is raised, as one client falls hard for her tattoo artist.

We meet Nix, a tattoo artist, with some unique talent especially with what her tattoos can do, that no one else can. As one of her first appointments, Bryn, has her tattoo picked out and ready for Nix to do her magic. As the two women get to know each other over a few sessions, where her tattoo gets put on her arm, Bryn becomes infatuated with Nix, her feelings start to show. Unbeknownst to Bryn, Nix feels the same way but is so conflicted because Bryn is a client. As she comes in for her last session with Nix, Bryn’s tattoo becomes enchanted, leaving this as the last chance both women can tell the truth.

Overall, an engrossing love story that shows how much the power of touch is needed and real connections can be rare. The story by Izzi Ward is engrossing and well characterized. The art by Ward is captivating. Altogether, a story that shows love shows up in the most unexpected places.
