Spectre Stays on Top and Crosses $500 million Worldwide
Spectre remained at the top spot at the box office as it faced little competition in new films this week. The latest Bond film earned $35.4 million over the weekend bringing its domestic total to $130.7 million in its second week. The film is dominating overseas. It earned an estimated $48 million in China, and if true, that’s the largest opening weekend and largest opening over three days of all time for any 2D US film. Skyfall earned $49 million for its entire China run. All together the film is close to $550 million worldwide at this point.
The Peanuts were second for the weekend adding $24.2 million to its total bringing the film to a total of $82.5 million domestically after two weeks.
As far as new films, Love the Coopers did best bringing in $8.4 million and coming in third. The 33 was fifth, earning $5.85 million. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo debuted in eighth and brought in $2.4 million. And finally, My All American was twelfth and earned $1.392 million.
In geek related films Minions added $151,410 to its total after 19 weeks at the box office. Jurassic World added $75,210 to its impressive total.
