Box Office Bounces Back with Bond and Peanuts
After two disappointing weeks in a row, the weekend box office rebounded with a strong weekend due to two films in particular. The weekend was led by SPECTRE which earned an estimated $73 million in its first week. It was followed by The Peanuts Movie which earned an estimated $45 million.
That helped boost the weekend by 6% compared to the same weekend last year, and a 148% increase from last weekend.
SPECTRE was the second highest opening for a Bond film. 2012’s Skyfall was the top one and earned $15.3 million more. So far, the film has earned $296.1 million worldwide.
The Martian dropped to third, and earned $9.3 million, and Goosebumps moved to fourth and earned $7 million.
In other geeky movies, Minions earned $190,680 and Ant-Man added $185,000 to its total. Jurassic World is out in Blu-ray, but still added $112,590.
