Pick of the Week – Superior Spider-Man #6
I’m pretty jaded when a major character is killed off. More than likely they’re coming back in a few months time as if nothing happened. Dan Slott though has taken this worn plot device and instead has given us a new take, and one that works, with Superior Spider-Man. Superior Spider-Man #6 picks up as Doc Ock/Spidey deals with his actions last issue, crossing a line the real Spider-Man never would.
As a whole, this series has been brilliant, instead of focusing on a hero attempting to do good, we get a villain trying to be the champion he never was. The focus on character has been amazing, especially with its subtle moments. Ock wants to be the best, and his approach at being Spidey has been fascinating to watch, as well as the arrogance and knowledge from his past life he’s brought to his new role.
This story and twist has sure brought some controversy, but it’s also brought some amazing stories with it too.
- Superior Spider-Man #6 – see above
- The Massive Vol. 1 – I usually don’t recommend trade collections, but this series is so good, if you missed the individual issues, you need to pick up this trade.
- Revival #8 – This series might seem like another dead rising/zombie comic, but it’s focus on small town cops dealing with the dead rising is more like a police drama than horror comic.
- Adventure Time #14 – Ok, I’m fairly new to the whole Adventure Time thing, but it’s consistently caused me to laugh and put a smile on my face.
- Avengers #8 – This series might be a bit thick for new readers with lots of references to obscure stories and characters, but it’s also the best drawn and written of the Marvel NOW! comics and one that’s trying to bring together a lot of disconnected characters/universes/plots.
