Review – The Walking Dead #106
I almost gave up on The Walking Dead. The 100th issue I thought was over the top and that writer Robert Kirkman was going into shock territory just to shock. The six issues since have been a return to old form. We have a villain that’s worthy of Rick.
So, Carl has messed up and got himself caught. This issue, much like the previous is that build up as to what the hell is going to happen to Carl.
Negan is a messed up bad guy. There’s order, so you can’t quite hate him, but he’s clearly a twisted guy.
Negan’s interaction with Carl is the draw of the issue. How the two interact and Negan taunts him is the draw. I’ll outright say, we don’t know what happens to Carl. That’s the next issue, but we have a psychological chess game going on.
The story arc, other than the 100th issue, has been fantastic. It’s a return to form for the series. You wondered where the series can go and while we thought we were going to see what civilization would be like in this new world, instead we have a bad guy almost as good as the Governor.
While the title of ‘Revenge’ doesn’t quite fit the issue, it’s a worthy chapter of one of the best story arcs of the series.
