Samsung Partners with Warner Bros. Pictures for Suicide Squad VR Experience

Suicide SquadSamsung Electronics America and Warner Bros. Pictures announced a collaboration that will bring Suicide Squad, one of the most anticipated films of the year, to life through exclusive virtual reality content and activations leading up to the release of the film August 5. Samsung will also have a presence at the Suicide Squad U.S. premiere and post-party.

Using Samsung Gear VR-powered by Oculus, the VR content will debut at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21.  It will transport fans into the world of Suicide Squad, experiencing what it’s like being a member of the Squad and watching their favorite characters, like Harley Quinn, Deadshot and Katana, in a scene from the film.  It will be available on August 5 on Samsung VR, the brand’s premium virtual reality content service.

Samsung will provide fans exclusive content and experiences throughout the summer, including:

Nationwide Retail Promotion

Fans who purchase a Samsung Galaxy tablet at leading retailers, will receive two tickets to see Suicide Squad when it opens in theaters August 5. The national retail promotion will run from July 15 through August 20, or while supplies last.

San Diego Comic-Con

At San Diego Comic-Con from July 21 through 24, Samsung will help bring the film to life by transforming the Samsung Experience into a real-life Suicide Squad experience. The Belle Reve penitentiary, the high security prison in which the Suicide Squad themselves are held, will be recreated in the space and fans will have the chance to take part in immersive film-themed experiences, such as getting a custom tattoo in Harley Quinn’s tattoo parlor.

Attendees will have the option to ‘Join the Squad’, an interactive feature which enables them to create their own Suicide Squad character and generate a short video of themselves to share on their social channels. Fans can then create their own personalized skulls using the icon generator to live print them on their own exclusive t-shirt. In addition to the exclusive VR content debuting at Comic-Con, cast members will make an appearance in the space.

US Premiere

Samsung will celebrate the movie as an official partner for the U.S. premiere of Suicide Squad on August 1 in New York City, including the after-party.  Samsung will create interactive experiences throughout the space to give attendees a chance to immerse themselves into the film using Samsung technology. Select Galaxy owners will also get exclusive red carpet access and a chance to see the film first.

Programming at Samsung 837

To coincide with the movie’s world premiere in New York City, Samsung 837, the brand’s experiential flagship where technology and culture collide in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, will feature special Suicide Squad VR content in the flagship’s VR Tunnel throughout the week of August 1.

SDCC 2016: Suicide Squad Experience Takes you to Belle Reeve

Suicide SquadIn anticipation of the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures’ high-octane actioner Suicide Squad, heading into theaters everywhere on August 5, DC’s massive team of Super-Villains will invade this year’s Comic-Con International: San Diego with a major presence both on and off the main floor, including appearances by the film’s stars.

Highlights of the convention’s “Suicide Squad” events include:

SQUAD UP!

  • Fans are invited to enter DC All Access’s (DCAA) “Suicide Squad” online Cosplay Contest starting Thursday, June 9, with their best Squad-inspired look as Deadshot, the Joker, Harley Quinn, Colonel Rick Flag, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, Diablo, Killer Croc, Enchantress, Slipknot or Katana.
  • Eleven winners, selected by visitors to the site, will then receive an all-expenses-paid trip for four days and three nights to San Diego and passes to the Con, where they will take part in a range of Warner Bros.’ “Suicide Squad” activities throughout the weekend.
  • Details are now on www.dccomics.com/squadup, Twitter and Instagram.

BUST INTO BELLE REVE!

  • Every day of the Con, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., have an immersive “Suicide Squad” experience when we transform 6000 square feet of San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel into the infamous Belle Reve penitentiary—the very place where the “worst of the worst” were incarcerated before forming the Suicide Squad.
  • Take part in a live-action virtual reality experience, fighting alongside Squad members in a scene from the film.
  • Get your own “Suicide Squad” skull “ink” at Harley Quinn’s tattoo parlor.
  • Take photo ops in a re-creation of one of Belle Reve’s jail cells.

GET UP CLOSE WITH THE “SUICIDE SQUAD”

  • Catch “Suicide Squad” talent as part of the big Warner Bros. Pictures’ exclusive presentation in Hall H, additional details of which are forthcoming, and connect with them directly at the DC booth, where stars of the film will meet fans and sign movie posters.
  • The cast will also make a special ensemble appearance on Saturday, July 23 to tape the Conan O’Brien Show, which will air that evening at 11 p.m. ET/PT on TBS.

From director David Ayer comes Suicide Squad, starring Oscar nominee Will Smith, Oscar winner Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and Oscar nominee Viola Davis.

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super-Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity.  U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do.  However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Written and directed by Ayer based on the characters from DC, the film also stars Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Adam Beach, and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut. It is produced by Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

The film opens worldwide in 3D, and in 2D, and in select IMAX 3D theaters beginning August 5, 2016.
