A New Look at Bestselling Author Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes Graphic Novel

BOOM! Studios has revealed a new look at A Spark Within the Forge: An Ember in the Ashes Graphic Novel, an official prequel to the New York Times bestselling series of novels from creator Sabaa Tahir, writer Nicole Andelfinger, artist Sonia Liao, colorist Kieran Quigley, and letterer Mike Fiorentino. A Spark Within the Forge will be the second graphic novel in a three volume prequel series that will explore the pasts of beloved An Ember in the Ashes series characters.

Before they were torn asunder, Laia lived happily and quietly with her Nan, Pop, and brother Darin within the Scholar district of Martial-ruled Serra. Although Laia is afraid to venture outside her home due to the heavy Martial presence, Darin loves to explore all parts of their home city… even those that are forbidden.

As a dangerous illness spreads throughout Serra, Laia must confront her deepest fears in order to save a community besieged by disease. Meanwhile, Darin has a chance encounter with famed swordsmith Spiro Teluman that leads him down a precarious path away from his family — but towards hope for his people.

A Spark Within the Forge: An Ember in the Ashes Graphic Novel will be available at local comic shops on February 9, 2022 and bookstores everywhere on February 15, 2022.

Jim Henson’s The Storyteller Returns with Shapeshifters from BOOM!

Studios has announced Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Shapeshifters, a brand new four-issue comic book series based on the Emmy Award-winning classic television show, Jim Henson’s The Storyteller. Each issue will feature a new creative team, with the first issue by writer Andre R. Frattino, artist Nori Retherford, colorist Kieran Quigley and letterer Jim Campbell, spinning a fresh new tale about the ancient Celtic myth of the swan Children of Lir, available in March 2022.

Fans of this enchanting series can look forward to stories about shapeshifters of lore by acclaimed creative teams such as award-winning author Darcie Little Badger with artist Alexandra Fastovets and colorist James Fenner, illustrator and cartoonist Em Niwa, and comics writer Deron Bennett with artist Bruka Jones.

In Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Shapeshifters #1, Dain, a nefarious, power-hungry magic user and Lir’s brother-in-law, plots to steal the throne from Lir and his family by turning Lir’s children into swans and ascending the throne himself. While Fionna, the eldest child, attempts to find a way to break their curse, the swan-children are forced to wander near and far for nearly a thousand years. They endure much hardship and sorrow but face the curse together . . . finding solace and strength in one another.  

Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Shapeshifters #1 will feature main cover art by illustrator Mike del Mundo and variant cover art by artist Mateus Manhanini.
