A New Symbiote Suit Emerges on Battleworld

In Amazing Spider-Man #252 by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, Spider-Man returned from Secret Wars with a new black costume that was later revealed to be the alien symbiote VENOM! Now, over 40 years later, a new comic book legend begins with the debut of a symbiote costume in Battleworld #3 this November that will return the following month in Venom #252.

Battleworld, a new limited series by Christos Gage and Marcus To, kicks off in September. The series follows the tradition of both the groundbreaking original Secret Wars and the 2015 Secret Wars event by bringing various heroes from the multiverse together on a patchwork planet for an epic conflict! Last week at San Diego Comic-Con, retailers learned that In Battleworld #3, one of those chosen heroes is revealed to be an all-new alternate Venom donning a Red and Blue Spidey suit! Created by writer Jordan Morris, who made his Marvel Comics debut earlier this year in Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1, and artist and designer Luciano Vecchio, this mysterious new character will headline his own backup story by Morris and Jesús Saíz in Venom #252, part of Al Ewing and Paco Medina’s current run. Venom #252 will also reunite DeFalco and Frenz for a story that ties back to their classic Amazing Spider-Man issue.

In addition to Luciano Vecchio’s design sheet for the new costume, check out the main cover for Battleworld #3 by Leinil Francis Yu and a Venom Variant Cover by Phillip Tan. Plus, see new variant covers for Venom #252 by R.B. Silva and Cory Smith that homage the original covers of Secret Wars #7 and Amazing Spider-Man #252. Youth Group is a fun read that mixes Church Youth Groups with Buffy

When cynical, gothy Kay lets her mom talk her into joining the youth group at their church, she’s prepared for the dorky sing-alongs and the cheesy slogans about dodging temptation. What she isn’t prepared for is walking in on the clean-cut youth group leaders, Meg and Cortland, in the middle of a real-deal exorcism.
Turns out these wholesome Christian teens are demon-hunting soldiers in a secret war that’s heating up fast.

Exclusive Preview: Jordan Morris and Bowen (Bones) McCurdy’s Youth Group

Eisner-nominated writer Jordan Morris and YALSA award-winning artist Bowen (Bones) McCurdy are collaborating on Youth Group, an all-new, original graphic novel about an Orange County teen church group that prays by day and slays demons by night. the graphic novel is being published by First Second and comes to shops July 16, 2024.

When Kay reluctantly agreed to join the youth group at Stone Mission Church in Orange County California, she expected the Jesus talk and the dorky singalongs and the colorful posters about dodging temptation. What she didn’t expect was to stumble on her youth group leaders, Meg and Cortland, in the middle of a read-deal exorcism. Turns out they’re both soldiers in a secret organization of demon hunters in a war that’s heating up, and even if Kay wanted to stay on the sidelines, she doesn’t have a choice — she’s a “Blight,” a human who demons can’t possess, and apparently that’s made her a target. Will Kay find her place in a world that’s so much more God-fearing and monster-fighting than what she’s used to? Will the Stone Mission youth group find common cause with their badass peers of other faiths? Or will a pack of small-time demons use Blights like Kay as the key to starting some real big trouble? Youth Group mixes humor, horror and heart to tell a story about putting aside your differences to give evil the beatdown it deserves.

Jordan Morris had this to say about the exclusive preview below:

In this scene, the Youth Group demon hunters demonstrate one of their more unorthodox training methods. Because Cortland has been possessed before, his cohorts have taken to shoving demons inside him to work on their exorcisms. They’ve given this horrifying practice the deceptively adorable name “The Tussle.”
