Lena Headey to star in Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales

Zenescope Entertainment has announced that actress Lena Headey, star of the immensely popular HBO television series GAME OF THRONES, will be joining the Grimm Fairy Tales Animated Series to voice the lead character, Sela Mathers.  Lena’s extensive resume includes her role as Queen Gorgo in 300 and as Sarah Connor in TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.   This announcement comes on the heels of another talented actress, Briana Evigan (Step Up 2, Sorority Girls, The Devil’s Carnival), having joined onto the project last week.

The GRIMM FAIRY TALES Animated Series will be based on Zenescope Entertainment’s popular comic book series of the same name.  What makes this situation unique is that Zenescope has teamed with Titmouse Animation Studio and Director Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, The  Venture Bros.) to bypass the traditional film studio system by seeking funding  for the  animated series through popular website Kickstarter.com (http://kck.st/wjSM8D ).  The project is live on Kickstarter now until May 1st, 2012 and has a pledge goal of $175,000.

“We set the goal of the animated series at 175K because we wanted to give our fans and those supporting the Kickstarter a high-quality product.” Explains Zenescope Marketing Manager Stephen Haberman “We’re hiring Titmouse, one of the premiere animation studios in the world, to handle the animation.  We have Jon Shnepp directing and now with Lena and Briana joining the project, we’re able to take it to another level.”

“Crowd-funding can be a powerful tool.  We’ve seen some really projects find funded through Kickstarter and it’s a game changer.”  Said Zenescope’s Editor-in-Chief, Ralph Tedesco “It gives us a chance to make this series the way our fans want to see it be made.  We’re about a third of the way there with funding and hopefully now with the all of the talent we’ve brought on board fans will see that this can be an amazing project to back.”

Zenescope Entertainment President Joe Brusha had this to say:

“We believe that our Grimm Fairy Tales comic book series would make an excellent animated series, and we’ve been pitching the idea to the Hollywood big-wigs for years. They’ve said “There is too much Fairy Tales stuff out there”, or “No one wants to see a gritty, dark, modern take on the fairy tales.” That’s where they’re wrong. We have tons of devoted fans that would love to see more of our series, and that is our chance and yours to make it happen.”

Grimm Fairy Tales has been the flagship series of Zenescope Entertainment since the company started. Zenescope has grown to a top comic book publisher due to its continued success. Grimm Fairy Tales is currently the longest running independent color comic being published today and has over 1 million copies in print.

Jon Schnepp will be directing this project. He is one of the hottest animation directors in Hollywood, having already seen a great deal of success working on such series as Aqua Teen Hunger Force , Metalocalypse, and the Venture Brothers. Not only will Jon be working closely with the creators of the comic book, Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco; Zenescope will be enlisting Titmouse Inc, one of the premiere animation studios, to help with this vision.

Titmouse Inc is a premiere animation studio with top-tier talent and experience. Jon Schnepp has worked with them before on many of his projects, and much of their work rounds out the Adult Swim animation block on Cartoon Network. Their variety of experience is suited well for the Grimm Fairy Tales animation series anthology.

About Titmouse Inc.

Titmouse, Inc. was formed to sell the kind of bad ass t-shirts Chris P had been designing on the side for years. It started out great! The designs were great. The t-shirts were great. The vibe was great – but clients wouldn’t stop hiring Chris P to do animation. The networks and studios wanted to hire a company to do these projects, not just a dude freelancing. So Titmouse, Inc starting doing less clothing and more cartoons. We hired more and more employees, expanded into more and more offices in our West Hollywood location and eventually bought our own building in Hollywood to house the ever growing crew. We’re now over 100 people strong and rock multiple television series, movies, titles, shorts and commercials – all in house. We still even make an occasional t-shirt.
