Heroclix Giant Size X-Men Toys “R” Us Exclusives

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids announced that there’s some exclusives heading to Toys “R” Us for their Heroclix Giant Size X-Men release.  Three new versions of some of the colossal figures will be hitting the store shelves starting May 15.

Heroclix Sentinel Mark VFrom the Wizkids website:

Playable at both the 150 and 300 point values, this version of the Sentinel Mark V is ready to capture and contain the mutant threat!  With consistent combat values and an array of offensive and defensive powers and abilities, your opponents will think twice before tangling with thisSentinel Mark V.

The Coordinated Assault trait is definitely an asset when the Mark V is played as part of a  larger force: the ability to make a free attack against an opposing figure is never to be underestimated! And be sure to also consider the Mark V’s Capture Coils special power when you’re building your force; re-positioning your opponent’s figures mid-battle via a successful ranged combat attack is extremely advantageous.

And let’s not forget the Indomitable ability!

Heroclix Sentinel Mark IIFrom the Wizkids website:

Like the Mark V above, the Sentinel Mark II can be played at two different point values, 100 and 300 points! The Sentinel Mark II has aggressive combat values and an array of great powers and abilities, as well as a slightly longer range (8 as opposed to the Mark V’s 7) with two targets.  Consider also the Indomitable ability and the future’s looking pretty grim for the opposition!

At both point values, the Mark II begins play with the Search and Destroy special power which enables it to not only use Outwit to counter powers on opposing figures, but to also increase its damage dealt with a successful attack by +1 for each action token on the Mark II’s target.

But that’s not all! The Sentinel Mark II also possesses the Coordinated Capture trait which allows it to assist whenever another friendly figure with the Robot keyword makes a successful attack.  If the target of that attack is within 8 squares and has no action tokens when it was attacked, the Mark II allows you to place an action token on that hit figure once actions resolve!

Heroclix ApocalypseFrom the Wizkids website:

At 300 points, Apocalypse is a force to be reckoned with! As you could probably anticipate, Apocalypse begins play protected by Impervious and his  Eternal Schemes trait provides some additional incentive for your opponents to not use their Outwit when this ancient mutant is around.  Eternal Schemes places an action token on any opposing figure within 4 squares that uses Outwit, even if they didn’t target Apocalypse himself!

Apocalypse also begins play with the Master Manipultor special power which allows him to use Shape Change and Telekinesis.  That’s not all though, becuase if Apocalypse uses Telekinesis to move an opposing figure and his (successful) attack roll is doubles, Master Manipulator also deals damage equal to Apocalypse’s damage value!

Apocalypse possesses a wide array of offensive powers to target his foes both near and from afar.  With two targets and 7 range, few figures will be able to hide from Apocalypse, and the Indomitable ability allows him to act without fer of pushing damage (so long as he doesn’t already have two tokens on him anyhow)! Mid- and end-dial Regenerate work to keep Apocalypse on the battlefield, while Impervious and Invulnerability absorb some (if not all!) of the damage dealt by your opponent’s figures.

You can find out the locations of some of the stores these are available at at the Wizkids website.

Heroclix – Caliban and Wolverine

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Caliban and Wolverine.

Heroclix CalibanHeroclix WolverineFrom the Wizkids website:

Caliban brings quite  variety of powers to the battlemap.  His early dial represents his time spent living under New York City as a member of the Morlock community with Stealth representing his penchant for staying in the shadows, and Combat Reflexes demonstrating his wiry ability to avoid being captured.  Exploit Weakness represents a lesser known aspect of Caliban’s power, which was to absorb and re-direct Psionic Fear upon his targets.Mid-dial, Caliban switches to his first Horseman persona, that of Death, with a jump in his damage and attack values along with the inclusion of Super Strength to demonstrate his amplified physique.  Caliban also trades his Combat Reflexes for a denser hide in the form of Impervious.  And after a brief stint as Death, Caliban trades roles to become the new Pestilence and his powers adapt accordingly.  At this stage, Caliban adds Poison and Invulnerability to his arsenal.

That’s not all though! Throughout Caliban’s dial he benefits from his Mutant Tracker trait which allows him to use Charge.  Even better, if his target has the Brotherhood of Mutants or X-Men team ability or keywords, you may remove an action token from Caliban once the action has resolved!

and

Wolverine is a deadly close-combatant as Death.  His early-dial is chock full of dangerous powers like Death Comes Swiftly special power which enables Wolverine to use Charge and Flurry.  Combine that with Exploit Weakness and a respectable damage value of 3, and Wolverine is ready to dish out some hurt! After his first click, Wolverine adds Steal Energy to his arsenal lowing him to potentially heal back up to his first click.  He switches to his trademark Blades/Claws/Fangs mid-dial for some swordplay while  Toughness keeps Wolverine safe from some harm as his armor absorbs some of the damage from opposing attacks.  Late dial Wolverine picks up Regeneration and the Brainwashed special power.  Don’t want to spend your action regenerating Wolverine? Field a friendly piece with Mind Control and have them do it for Wolverine instead!

And let’s not forget that Wolverine also has The Fourth Horseman: Death trait.  K.O. an opposing figure and instantly all of Wolverine’s combat values are modified by +1 until the end of the turn!

Heroclix – Aaron Stack and Elsa Bloodstone

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Aaron Stack and Elsa Bloodstone.

Heroclix Aaron Stack

Heroclix Elsa BloodstoneFrom the Wizkids website:

Aaron Stack is a veritable tool chest of useful powers and abilities.  He starts off with with some great close-combat capabilities thanks to early-dial Charge and Super Strength.  After the first couple of clicks, Exploit Weakness and Blades/Claws/Fangs demonstrates how effective Aaron is in melee against the “Fleshy Ones”.

Mid-dial Leap/Climb allows Aaron to get where he’ll do the most good for your force, and sets him up nicely for his Extendable Body Parts special power which allows him to make ranged attacks with a range value equal to his click number! Combine that with some Penetrating/Psychic Blast and Aaron makes an exceptional secondary range attack piece.

Alternating between Invulnerability and Defend, Aaron Stack is able to mix it up with opposing figures as well as help protect his teammates, while late-dial Regenerate allows Aaron to get bck up to his mid-dial for more “useful devices” action!

Lastly, Aaron Stack’s keyword selection enables him to theme on a variety of great teams which only increases the usefulness of this utility piece.

and

Elsa is an expert at battling monsters and a dangerous close combatant.  Her Monster Hunter trait allows her to deal penetrating damage against figures who’s point values are more than 250 pts, while her attack value gets a +2 boost versus giant and colossal figures or figures with the Monster keyword.   Talk about a deadly accent! The fun doesn’t end there though.  Early-dial Charge and Blades/Claws/Fangs demonstrates Elsa’s mastery of combat techniques while Combat Reflexes reflects her many years of training.  Mid-dial Willpower gives Elsa the opportunity for that extra push, whether it be to shoot a monster in the face or attck it with her trademarked spade.

Late-dial Flurry and Regenerate both keep Elsa in the fight, and her very consistent combat values ensures Elsa will be a threat to opposing figures no matter where she is on her dial.

Heroclix – Karima and Cable

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Karima and Cable.

Heroclix Karima

Heroclix CableFrom the Wizkids website:

Karima is definitely ready to bring the fight to the enemy.  Early-dial Running Shot and an 8 Range allows her to move into position, and while on the way to set up the shot, Karima can pick up an object with Super Strength for an up close and personal special delivery.  Shape Change gives her that additional edge should your opponent attempt to target her, and if an attack gets past her disguise, her Invulnerability will protect her.

Mid-dial Karima switches tactics somewhat and trades Super Strength for Penetrating/Psychic Blast and also picks up some handy Force Blast to keep your foes at bay (and set them up for nice ranged attacks).  Toughness continues to afford some protection against opponents’ attacks as well.

Karima’s end-dial represents her short run as a member of the Maruaders while possessed by Malice.  She adds Mind Control to her arsenal and Pulse Wave ensures Karima remains a deadly threat.  Lastly, Regeneration allows Karima the opportunity to get back up to her early-dial.

At 118 points with consistent combat values, the Indomitable ability, a host of useful keywords and dual Police and X-Men team abilities, Karima will be a very useful addition to your X-collection!

and

At 140 points, Cable is certainly ready to join the fight.  Striking from the shadows with some opening clicks of Stealth, Cable demonstrates his proficiency with firearms with Ranged Combat ExpertStealth gives way to Charge and Cable picks up Close Combat Expert as he moves in for the melee.

Early-dial Toughness protects Cable from some harm, and mid-dial Regeneration allows Cable to potentially return to his first click.  However, should Cable choose to not heal, he will find that he will undergo a fantastic transformation!

Charge gives way to Hypersonic Speed as Cable takes on a whole new persona via his Lord Protector of Providence special power which allows use of Barrier, Defend, Leadership, and the Flight ability! If that weren’t enough, Penetrating/Psychic Blast and Impervious ensure that Cable will be deadly, enduring threat on the battlemap.

Hypersonic Speed gives way to Phase/Teleport allowing Cable to continue to move freely on the map, while Impervious is traded for Invunerability on the end-dial.

Aggressive combat values and an impressive power selection makes Cable a very potent addition to any force.  And his keyword selection allows Cable to theme on a number of impressive rosters!

Heroclix – Deadpool and Archangel

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Uncanny X-Force’s Deadpool and Archangel.

Heroclix DeadpoolHeroclix ArchangelFrom the Wizkids website:

It’s great to see Deadpool in his X-Force uniform and he certainly brings an arsenel of explosive one-liners and witty weapons.  His dial opens with Stealth (as he sneaks-sneaks-sneaks around), Toughness, and his New Writer special power that allows you to add a little deus ex machina to your games by choosing the power set that will help you out the most during your game.

Stealth gives way to Running Shot as Deadpool leaves the comfort of shadows for a full-frontal assualt, while Toughness gives way to some early-dial Regeneration (handy to get back up to those first clicks), and Perplex allows him to add that little bit of extra help where it’s needed most.

Deadpool’s late-dial brings Charge and then Phasing/Teleport as well as some Blades/Claws/Fangs to the battlemap and Regeneration makes another appearance as well.  However, if Regeneration isn’t sufficient to get Deadpool’s dial to where you want it, there’s always his X-Men team ability which allows you to share clicks of health with other figures with the team ability.

Lastly, Deadpool’s trait allows him to ignore the effects of Poison, Mind Control, and Penetrating/Psychic Blast

and

Archangel joins his X-Force comrades striking from the shadows with early-dial Stealth.  If your opponent tries to base Archangel, their figure must then contend with Warren’s Combat Reflexes and Quake, hardly an incentive to engage in close combat!

Archangel’s mid-dial gives him access to his Razor Wings special power which allows Archangel to use Blades/Claws/Fangs while using Hypersonic SpeedCombat Reflexes gives way to Toughness as Running Shot and Incapacitate demonstrate Archangel’s paralytic “move and strike” techniques.

Finally, late-dial Regenerate and the X-Men team ability allow you to continually get Archangel to where he’ll do the most good.

Heroclix – Harry Leland and Hellfire Club Guards

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Harry Leland and Hellfire Club Guards.

Heroclix Harry Leland

Heroclix Hellfire Club Guards

From the Wizkids website:

Harry Leland’s mass-affecting powers are definitely in full force on this dial.  Let’s look at that Trait first; Mass Increase effectively shuts down Charge, Running Shot, and Hypersonic Speed on any opposing character within 4 squares! And if they try to move outside of the area of effect, they’re doing it at half speed.

Then there’s Leland’s Gravitational Focus special power which allows him to use Incapacitate within 4 squares as well.  If that weren’t bad enough, a successfully hit target has their speed value reduced and locked at 1 until your next turn!

Individually both abilities are useful, but combined they make manuevering nigh-impossible for your opponent’s figures.  And while Leland’s own speed value isn’t all that high, getting him into position to do the most damage won’t be that difficult as his lower point value ensures you have plenty of room on your force for some heavy hitters and characters capable of carrying Leland around.

But what if someone tries to take Leland out? Well, with so much potential battlefield control it’s inevetiable that someone will try to K.O. Leland.  His higher defense helps initially, but if you pair him up with the Hellfire Club Guard, his chances get much better!

and

The Hellfire Club Guards (or HCG’s) are definitely what you may have come to expect from a Minion-style figure; short dial with some offensive combat potential.  However, what makes the HCG really shine is their ability to confer Mastermind upon any friendly figure with the Hellfire Club keyword and a higher point value.

So say someone attacks your Leland or another Hellfire Club keyworded figure.  No worries with the HCG on hand;  just shunt the damage off to another Hellfire Club figure, or the HCG themselves.  The opening clicks of Toughness help the HCG’s absorb some damage before being removed hopefully, but if not, no matter.

Heroclix – Siryn

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Siryn.

Heroclix SirynFrom the Wizkids website:

At 94 points, Siryn packs a potent punch.  Consistent combat values all down her dial combined with her power selection means you will always have options when Siryn is on the battle map.  Early-dial Incapacitate and late-dial Pulse Wave (via her Sonic Scream special power) plus an opening 3 damage means that Siryn will always have a way to deal with opposing figures with Invulnerability or Impervious, while four clicks of Running Shot allows Siryn to get in position to do the most good for your force.

Late-dial Force Blast and Willpower give Siryn the opportunity to wreak some sonic-powered havoc as well.  In playtesting, we joked constantly that any elevated terrain Siryn took “was her’s” and no one wanted to even attempt becoming adjacent to her!  But no matter your strategy, Siryn will make an excellent addition to your X-based teams!

And speaking of teams, let’s not forget the X-Men team ability, which alows you to keep Siryn in the fight! All in all, Siryn is an effective ranged combat addition to your force!

Heroclix – Purifiers and William Stryker

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Purfiers and William Stryker.

Heroclix PurifierHeroclix William StrykerFrom the Wizkids website:

Clocking in at only 25 points, Purifiers are designed to travel in packs together shelling out concurrent explosive attacks against your opponents’ figures.  Their Armored Vestments (Toughness) keeps them on the board despite a shorter dial and their Minion power makes them even more dangerous!

and

First, there’s Stryker’s Trait; “Mutants are the Enemy” effectively shuts down both the Brotherhood and X-Men team abilities so long as Stryker is on the board! No “free move” actions or team ability-based healing for your opponent’s  mutants while this guy is around.

Stryker’s “Playing to the Crowd” special power also gives the Purifier cause a boost; the ability to increase his own attack when adjacent to his followers is useful, but increasing his damage value by the same amount if his target has the X-Men or Brotherhood Keyword or team ability is just nasty!

And let’s not overlook the front dial Leadership, which is particularly useful considering the low cost of the Purifiers and the fact that you can easily field several with Stryker.  Late-dial Outwit also aids Stryker and his Purifiers in their crusade against Mutantkind.

Heroclix – Beast

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Beast.

Heroclix BeastFrom the Wizkids website:

Beast’s Expeditious Assualt allows him to charge in where he’ll do the most good, while early-dial Outwit ensures his experience and scientific know-how are put to the best use; undermining your foes’ powers and abilities!Once Beast is engaged in the melee, his Preternatural Agility (Combat Reflexes) and his Trait help keep him safe from harm! Leaps and Bounds grants Beast a full dial of Super Senses and if your enemies somehow get around his defenses, Beast can Leap/Climb away to safety (and hopefully some healing via the X-Men team ability).

And talk about talented! Mid-dial Stealth and the Avengers team ability show how Hank is able to multi-task his time between his scientific studies, duties to the X-Men, and his new role as a member of Steve Roger’s Secret Avengers.
