Mad Cave Studios reveals its Greg Smallwood The Phantom #0 Free Comic Book Day cover

Free Comic Book Day takes place the first Saturday in May and Mad Cave Studios is releasing multiple comics including The Phantom #0 written by Ray Fawkes. A teaser image was originally released and now we have a first look at the cover by Greg Smallwood.

The Phantom, Lee Falk’s highly influential superhero, is back in an all-new adventure series! The first story in an exciting publishing plan that is sure to satisfy both new and returning “Phans” of comics’ beloved Ghost Who Walks. In true Phantom fashion, look forward to pulpy storytelling focused on justice, honor, mystery, and mythology—all told with heaps of action!

Free Comic Book Day 2025: Dark Horse features Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures and Avatar: The Last Airbender

Dark Horse Comics has released more details about this coming year’s Free Comic Book Day Gold issue, featuring two new stories suitable for all ages and set in the worlds of Star Wars and Avatar: The Last Airbender, respectively. This issue will be available at participating comic shops on Free Comic Book Day, which takes place on May 2, 2025.

First up, prepare for a smelly swamp scavenger hunt in an all-new Star Wars tale!

In Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures—Scavenger Hunt, everyone’s favorite Jedi younglings, Kai, Lys, and Nubs, travel to a mysterious (and smelly) swamp, where Jedi Master Yoda has set up an elaborate scavenger hunt. As the younglings look for clues, they find an unexpected friend and learn an important lesson about what it means to be a Jedi.

This Star Wars short comic story is written by Dave Scheidt, with interior art and cover art by Andy Duggan, colors by Dan Jackson, and letters by Comicraft.

In a new short Avatar: The Last Airbender adventure, Ramen Rumble, Samurai Appa and Ronin Momo are back!

Samurai Appa and Ronin Momo roam the Four Nations, righting wrongs wherever they go. In Avatar: The Last Airbender — Ramen Rumble, the sky bison and winged lemur find themselves at a besieged Fire Nation noodle house where some of the clientele are tougher customers than the owner would like. Can the duo bring some order to chaos—and maybe earn themselves lunch in the process? Or will they be out on their tails?

TheAvatar: The Last Airbender comic short is written by Brandon Hoáng, with art by BellBessa, colors by C.E. Chant, and letters by Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt.

Free Comic Book Day 2025: Diamond Announces Exclusive Merchandise

Diamond Comic Distributors is partnering with YouTooz, Fanwraps, and Surreal Entertainment on the upcoming release of PREVIEWS Exclusive (PX) collectible merchandise available during Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at participating local comic shops.

YouTooz headlines this year’s lineup with two exclusive collectibles. The PX Dazzler Volume 1 #20 Glow-in-the-Dark Vinyl Figure (JAN250014; SRP $40.00) is inspired by the cover art of Dazzler #20 by father-son duo John Romita, Sr. and Jr. Standing 4 7/8” tall, Dazzler bursts forward on roller skates, leaving an explosive trail of energy behind her. With her arms outstretched and clad in a sleeveless disco-inspired outfit, she radiates dynamic motion and style. Limited to 500 pieces. Also available from YouTooz is the PX Deadpool and Wolverine: Wolverine Volume 1 Black & White Vinyl Figure (JAN250015; SRP $40.00). Standing 5 1/4” tall, this figure showcases Wolverine in mid-stride, claws extended, his gritted teeth and furrowed brow highlighting his fierce determination, while Deadpool hangs over his shoulder. Limited to 500 pieces.

Fanwraps is offering a selection of PX 32-ounce Fallout Souvenir Cups (SRP $10.99 each), featuring colorful images from the game series. Available designs feature Hubris (JAN250011), Unstoppable (JAN250012), and Vault Boy (JAN250013). Each cup is limited to 500 pieces.

Surreal Entertainment’s PX Tin Titans: Godzilla Lunch Box (JAN250010; SRP $24.99) pulls inspiration straight from the pages of IDW Publishing’s Godzilla comics. It features a brushed metal finish and comes complete with a 10-ounce retro-style soup container. Limited to 1,750 pieces.

These PREVIEWS Exclusive collectibles will be available in extremely limited quantities beginning on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from participating Free Comic Book Day stores. Art Baltazar Announced as the Commemorative Artist for FCBD 2025

Diamond Comic Distributors has revealed the commemorative artist for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) 2025. Multi-award-winning cartoonist Art Baltazar, celebrated for his dynamic and heartwarming artistry, has created a one-of-a-kind design, featuring colorful and vibrant artwork that captures the love and joy in comics. The design will serve as the commemorative t-shirt, poster, and vinyl sticker for FCBD 2025.

In a career that spans thirty years, Art’s work has ranged from his own AW YEAH COMICS characters including Patrick the Wolf Boy and Action Cat; the award-winning Tiny Titans, Superman Family Adventures, and DC Super-Pets for DC Comics. Additionally, Art has worked on Itty Bitty Hellboy for Dark Horse Comics and the graphic novels Gillbert the Little Merman and Flash Gordon Adventures! for Papercutz. Free Comic Book Day 2025: Blizzard’s Diablo series returns in new comics from Titan

Titan Comics and Blizzard Entertainment have announced an all-new comic book series set in the universe of the award-winning horror role-playing game series Diablo. The new comic series, entitled Diablo: Dawn of Hatred, will launch with a special FREE issue primer for this May’s Free Comic Book Day annual event. 

Written by acclaimed horror writer Cullen Bunn and illustrated by award-winning artist Daniele Serra with colorist Jovanna Plata, Diablo: Dawn of Hatred explores the depths and misery of Sanctuary as it struggles to rebuild after the cataclysmic events of Diablo IV and its first expansion Vessel of Hatred.

Set in the dark and demon-infested world of Sanctuary, the Diablo game series invites players to face down the infernal hordes of the Burning Hells — and rewards them for their efforts with piles and piles of epic loot. 

Fans will be able to pick up Diablo: Dawn of Hatred Free Comic Book Day Edition from their local comic shop on Free Comic Book Day on May 3, 2025.
