IDW Announces a New Creator-Owned Series from Steve Niles and Damien Worm

It is said that no two families are alike, but never has that been more true than in the case of the Allan family, the subject of Steve Niles and Damien Worm’s new IDW ongoing series, The October Faction.

In a release Niles said:

The lead character is Fredrick Allan, a retired monster hunter who is now teaching Monsters & Mythology while he hides from 30 years of enemies. His heyday was in the 70’s, so October Faction will flashback to those 70’s monster hunting days. The main thread is about this man who is trying to get to know his family for the first time ever. Unfortunately, while he has neglected his wife she’s become a pill-popping thrill-killer. His two children, just turned 19 and 20, are starting to piece together who their father is and also whether or not he is their real father.

After writing mini-series for the better part of 25 years, I am thrilled to be writing a monthly ongoing and all the more thrilled it’s with IDW. October Faction will be Halloween every month if Damien and I have anything to say about it.

Steve Niles is credited as one of the contemporary writers that brought horror comics back to prominence with works such as 30 Days of Night, which was also made into a major motion picture. He is currently collaborating with another horror legend, Bernie Wrightson on Frankenstein Alive! Alive! and Damien Worm on Monster & Madman, both from IDW.

IDW Publishers Horror Anthology In The Dark

The terror tome that has all the horror hounds frothing, In The Dark, is poised to make its debut this April! Featuring top writers and artists from the comic-book industry, In The Dark contains over 20 all-new, original horror stories that you’ll want to read with the lights on.

In The Dark launched as a Kickstarter project put together by Anathema scribe Rachel Deering last year, and successfully doubled the intended target goal for the project. Assembled and edited by Deering, In The Dark dives into a myriad of sinister horror stories from writers including Justin Jordan, Cullen Bunn, Steve Niles, Duane Swierczynski, Tom Taylor, Tim Seeley, Brian Keene, F. Paul Wilson, Ed Brisson, Marguerite Bennett, Valerie D’Orazio, Paul Tobin, James Tynion IV, and many more. Nate Powell, Tradd Moore, Damien Worm, Tyler Jenkins, Drew Moss, and Andy Belanger are just a few of distinguished artists that will give each tale a unique and distinct style.

Along with the terrifying original stories, this over 250-page hardcover will feature an introduction by New York Times Bestselling author Scott Snyder and an in-depth look at the history of horror comics by comic book historian Mike Howlett.

In The Dark is the latest anthology IDW is pleased to publish under its banner, joining Womanthology and the prose anthologies V-Wars and Zombies Vs. Robots: This Means War!

A New Twisted Tale From Steve Niles!

Visionary author and celebrated comic creator Steve Niles is returning to IDW in 2014 and bringing the most nefarious fiends along with him. Debuting in March, Niles weaves together a grave team-up between Frankenstein’s monster and Jack the Ripper in the terrifying new series, Monster & Madman.

A lost soul, Frankenstein’s monster seeks refuge from his waking life but finds no comfort in the bitter harshness of his surroundings. He sets out to free himself from his lonely isolation and during this journey he finds himself at the doorstop of a creature more sinister than he could have imagined, the madman, Jack The Ripper.

Niles reinvigorated the horror genre in American comics with his lauded IDW series 30 Days of Night, with artist Ben Templesmith. Since the widely successful and Eisner-nominated series debuted in 2002, 30 Days of Night has gone on to spawn 10 additional series and a major motion picture from Sony.

Joining Niles in this terrifying new series is Damien Worm, whose macabre style brings the undead to life. In addition to penciling, inking and coloring the covers and interior pages, Worm will also be handling lettering chores on the three-issue series.  Niles added, “I’m very excited to be working with Damien. He has that dark edge to his art I love for horror stories. I’m constantly impressed with just how macabre his images can be.”

IDW is eager to share the world of a monster and a madman in this twisted tale from Steve Niles, debuting in March 2014.
