Camilla d’Errico Talks Art, Toys and Merchandise at NY Comic Con

Official Press Release

Helmetgirls and Tanpopo artist Camilla d’Errico will be at the 5th Annual New York City Comic Con for an intense weekend of panels, previews, releases and signings.

Camilla explains, “I’m looking forward to kicking off the weekend with the panel. Dark Horse was the first company I licensed my art with, so being up there with David Scroggy, talking about art-to-merchandise is meaningful, especially because Dark Horse is publishing my hardcover art book next year”.

Art to Merchandise – How to Make More With Your Art
Friday, October 8
Panel Room 5 (1A17-18)
12:15 – 1:15pm

As one of the most widely appealing New Contemporary artists, Camilla also has a thriving licensing program, with merchandise ranging from t-shirts and hoodies to handbags and jewelry. She has a collection of t-shirts at Hot Topic yet equally collaborates with independent designers like Bagadocious and Nixxi or artisans like Bling Squared. Add to that the merchandise produced in-house such as the self-published Tanpopo books, plush collectibles and apparel, and you get a sense of why Camilla is hosting a panel about promoting art through merchandising.

“We work with over 15 licensees at the moment, and we’re expanding selectively into other categories”, says AdaPia d’Errico, sister and business partner, “and Camilla’s art and characters appeal to a vast demographic, from teen girls to the adult male art and toy collector. We get requests every day from fans that suggest other products we should be making. It’s wonderful!”

No major convention would be complete without a big release, and Camilla will definitely deliver in New York. “I’ve wanted my own line of toys since I can remember.” Camilla continues, “It’s the end product of a long journey of character creation, product development and collaborating with the right company.”

Camilla will be in Artist Alley, table C11 promoting her latest Tanpopo book, Volume #3 and a new print. “The Elephantmen cover is a special NYCCC print release,” says d’Errico, “and I’ll be signing at the Image Booth Sunday from 10:30 – 12:00”. October marks the release of d’Errico’s “Sky Pirates of Neo Terra” graphic novel from Image Comics, as well Elephantmen #29 for which she created the cover art.

Camilla d’Errico (www.camilladerrico.com) is best known for her pseudo-steampunk Helmetgirls artwork that has inspired cosplayers across America, as well as her Tanpopo graphic novel series, which has spawned plush, accessories and a clothing line that she promotes with style and verve at comic, anime and pop culture conventions across the continent on a yearly basis. Published by Del Rey, Simon & Schuster, Image Comics and Dark Horse, her client list includes Disney, Hasbro and Sanrio.
