Stars of J.J. Abrams series Fringe set to make an appearance at the Calgary Expo April 27-29, 2012!

(Calgary, ab) John Noble, also known as Denethor in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and Jasika Nicole also known as Egypt in Take the Lead, have joined the Calgary Expo’s already star-studded line-up.

Fringe, having been on the air since 2008, has become an incredibly successful television series, having been compared to such sci-fi hits as The X-Files and Altered States.

“Both John and Jasika have a lot to offer our convention”, states Event Director Kandrix Foong. “Not only are they talented actors but they are both talented artists in their own right, which is something that the Calgary Expo has always worked to support from day one.”

Priding itself on supporting the arts, the Calgary Expo strives to bring in local, national and international artists to showcase their work in Artist Alley. The Artist Alley section of the exhibition offers these talented individuals an opportunity to demonstrate their skills to both fans and fellow artists. The Calgary Expo will also be featuring panels and workshops that will include topics such as breaking into the arts industries, portfolio critiques and so much more.

Adam Baldwin (Serenity, Chuck, Full Metal Jacket) announced as guest of 2012 Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo

Kubrick star is set to appear at the 2012 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo!

(Calgary, AB) Adam Baldwin, famed for his portrayal of Animal Mother in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket will be appearing at the Calgary Expo April 27-29, 2012. Aside from being the star of one of Kubrick’s most notorious films, Adam is also the star of Joss Whedon’s cult hit Firefly and the successful follow-up film Serenity which also stars Alberta-born actor Nathan Fillion.

His prolific work in the realm of Science Fiction, Action and Fantasy has made Adam a favorite amongst nerd-culture enthusiasts. He has also performed alongside Will Smith in the blockbuster film Independence Day, has hadrecurring roles on Stargate: SG-1, Joss Whedon’s Buffy spin-off Angel, and the X-Files as Knowle Rohrer. He is currently working on the hit-series Chuck.

“Adam’s involvement with Serenity, Firefly and Angel make him a great addition to our line-up,” states Event Director Kandrix Foong. “Serenity fans were very excited when we unofficially announced him at a screening of Serenity at the Plaza in Kensington yesterday.”

The screening of Serenity was the first installment of Calgary Expo presents: EXPOsure  – a Monthly Film Series, which will feature the very best in pop culture and cult films.  The next screening will be the original Batman film in celebration of Adam West’s presence at the Calgary Expo in 2012.  The screening will be held on Sunday, January 8 at the Plaza in Kensington with tickets to go on sale this week.  One dollar from every ticket sold goes to the Calgary Expo’s official charity, The Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The screenings also feature raffles and prizes, the proceeds from which also go to the charity.

Heroes & Scream Starlette Hayden Panettiere Coming to 2012 Calgary Expo

The Calgary Expo will be making some noise in 2012 with Heroes and Scream 4 star Hayden Panettiere set to make an appearance. 

(Calgary, AB) Hayden Panettiere, award winning actor and vocalist, has been added to the Calgary Expo’s growing roster of media and creator guests for the convention which runs April 27-April 29, 2012.

Hayden has performed in over 50 titles since the start of her acting career at the young age of 11 months. She is known primarily for her portrayal of Claire Bennet in Heroes, making the phrase, “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World” a household saying. Hayden also starred in the fourth installment of the comedic-horror Scream franchise as well as being the voice behind Dot in Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.

She has won multiple awards including the Teen Choice Award which she received three consecutive years (2007-2009)for her work on Heroes. She was also the recipient of the 2001 Young Artist Award as the Best Supporting Young Actress for her role alongside Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans.

“Hayden’s work is expansive,to say the least,”says Event Director Kandrix Foong. “She is a great example of young talent in the industry and she’s become a very strong role model.”

Calgary Expo brings My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic star Tara Strong to 2012 event.

(Calgary, AB) Adults and children alike will be excited to meet one of animations greatest talents, Tara Strong, this spring at the Calgary Expo.

Tara Strong is a Canadian voice actor of legendary proportions whose resume includes over 300 titles. She is best known as the voice of Twilight Sparkle in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Bubbles in The Powerpuff Girls and Tara in Kim Possible.

Her talents have also been used as the English localizations of some of anime’s greatest productions including Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Sailor Moon. She was the 2004 winner of the Interactive Achievement Award for her role in Final Fantasy X-2 and was the announcer for the Kids Choice Awards in 2000.

“For over 25 years Tara has been a great talent in the voice acting world,” says Kandrix Foong, Event Director of the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. “Having her at our convention for the World Wish Day with the Make-A-Wish foundation will be very special for a lot of people.”

Family will be a major focus for The Calgary Expo with adults being able to bring in up to four children 12 and under for free. Calgary is getting Spiked as one of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s most notorious vampires makes his way to the Calgary Expo!

(Calgary,AB) One of Joss Whedon’s best loved characters will be attending the 2012 Calgary Expo, Western Canada’s largest pop culture event. James Marsters,who is best known for his role as the platinum-haired heart throb in Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be available for photo ops, autographs and panel discussions over the weekend. An accomplished musician, he will also be performing at a special event hosted by the Calgary Expo, An Evening with James Marsters on April 27th, 2012. Details about the evening event will be announced on the Calgary Expo website in mid-January.

Marsters has also had roles in smash hit television shows such as Smallville, Torchwood and Marvel’s Superhero Squad. His famous role as Spike was reprised in Angel, the successful Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off.
