The Extremity Kickstarter campaign features two distinct books – Extremity: Signature Edition, the core 256-page book that presents all 12 issues of the comic book in 12” x 17” format, and The Art of Extremity, a 128-page book that presents a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Extremity, sized at 8.25” x 11.75”.

Extremity: Signature Edition showcases Daniel Warren Johnson’s Extremity, where the beauty of Studio Ghibli meets the intensity of Mad Max, in a stunning new format at the same size as originally drawn. Readers will be treated to Johnson’s unlettered line art at actual board size (12” x 17”, versus the traditional comics size of 6” x 10”), bringing Extremity to life in an oversized, eye-popping format.

The Art of Extremity contains a foreword by Daniel Warren Johnson, as well as never-before-seen sketches and concept artwork for Extremity. A window into the mind of a worldbuilding creator, The Art of Extremity is a perfect companion to the Extremity: Signature Edition.

The campaign also exclusively presents tiered access to Extremity merch, including prints, bookmarks, and T-shirts, as well as signed editions and two retailer levels for comic book shops. Previous backers and mailing list members will also receive a free Extremity title logo pin when they back the campaign.

Extremity: Signature Edition is the first time that Skybound has offered comic book content in this format and will also launch a new product line at Skybound of books that collect the original art of a comic at board size of 12” x 17”, with more announcements to come.

The Extremity: Artist Edition campaign is live now on Kickstarter, with stretch goals and campaign-exclusive products to be announced through the close of the campaign, Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 12:00 PM PT.

Backer Beware: Crowdfunding projects are not guaranteed to be delivered and/or delivered when promised. We always recommend to do your research before backing.

Two surreal tales of life, love, and loss from an extraordinary imagination…

From the Award-winning wunderkind creator Jim Bishop, comes two tales of heartbreak and adventure: Lost Letters and My Dear Pierrotnow live on Backerkit!

For fans of Studio Ghibli and Satoshi Kon, these powerful and unique Award-winning OGNs are presented in English for the very first time, and are available only from Magnetic Press, the industry’s leading graphic novel publisher.

Lost Letters

On an idyllic island where humans and fish coexist on land, young Iode (short for Iodine) waits patiently for a letter he has been expecting, one that seems to be perpetually delayed. Suspecting it might have gotten lost, he takes a trip into town to inquire at the post office. Along the way, he meets a spirited hitchhiker entrusted to deliver a mysterious package by the enigmatic underworld syndicate, “The Octopus. ”Their two missions intertwine leading not only to unexpected adventure, but deep personal realizations for both of them… The world is not what it seems, and the simple surreality of their little town may not be everything it seems to be.

Exploring the value of Family and Friendship amidst deep, personal doubts, LOST LETTERS is a deceptively powerful tale of emotional orphans coming to grips with the reality of their surroundings. Set in a surreal fantasy land populated by talking fish, this multi-layered adventure is filled with exciting action, beautiful palettes, startling imagination, and quiet dignity.

Originally released in Europe in 2021, the OGN won multiple awards including the International Manga Awards in Japan, Lecteurs.com BD Prize,  the France Bleu Comic Award, and the 2022 Orange Comics Prize.

My Dear Pierrot

Cléa, a young noblewoman, is groomed for a promising future with Berthier, the son of a Count. It should be a comfortable life, but is that what she truly wants…? Fate introduces her to Pierrot, a charming street magician who sweeps her off her feet and reveals what her sheltered life lacks. Fascinated by Pierrot, Cléa follows him to his hidden treehouse in the woods, where wonders unimaginable unfold. The boundaries of possibility expand before her, but is she really chasing freedom, or is she trapped in Pierrot’s spell…?

What begins as a fairy tale romance turns gradually into a fantasy thriller with dark twists and dangerous repercussions that will keep you turning the pages through to its deadly climax. This is not your typical storybook of whimsical witchcraft — Jim Bishop deftly manipulates the tropes and reader expectations to explore the delicate line between devotion and independence.

Both Lost Letters and My Dear Pierrot are offered in multiple editions including Digital, Premium Softcover, Deluxe Hardcover, and a Limited Edition Slipcased Set. Books may be ordered individually or you can create your own customized bundle by selecting a base Pledge Level and then adding other items as add-ons.

The campaign ends Friday, March 15th at 8pm EST/5pm PST.

Outland Entertainment and Cullen Bunn expand their horror endeavor

Last year, Outland Entertainment announced Cullen Bunn’s horror imprint, Outer Shadows. Through Outer Shadows, three prose projects (Swords in the Shadows, Raze, and Crooked Hills) have been published. While more terrifying prose projects are in the works, Outer Shadows will also be pushing into the comic book publishing arena with an aggressive, exciting, and horrifying initiative.

There are dozens of comic books, trade paperbacks, and original graphic novels planned for the Outer Shadows imprint. First up, a dark fantasy/horror series titled The Faraway, written by Bunn and illustrated by Vitalii Kalchenko.

In the release, Bunn described the new series:

The Faraway offers a clear premise. If you’re my age, you loved the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon, where a group of kids get swept into a magical land. What happens, though, if those kids get trapped in a realm of fantasy and magic… that has been completely consumed by evil? In The Faraway, a group of unlucky gamers finds themselves surrounded by a world of horrifying monsters and murderous cutthroats. And, while the book is gorgeously illustrated, the situation will not be pretty.

The Kickstarter campaign for The Faraway will launch on March 7, 2024. The pre-launch campaign page is live now.

Several other comics are currently in production for Outer Shadows, with a variety of styles and horror subgenres being tackled. In addition to The Faraway, a new erotic horror thriller titled Bumping Uglies (illustrated by Ann Marie Cochran) will be serialized under the imprint. This story follows a pair of police detectives on a descent into a sex-fueled nightmare as they investigate a new mind-altering drug with supernatural origins.

The Faraway and Bumping Uglies will be a series, but Outer Shadows will also be releasing one-shot horror tales titled Nightmare Fuel Presents. These stories will be self-contained tales of pulse-pounding terror.

Nightmare Fuel Presents one-shots will include Death Duel with Chainsaw Witches (illustrated by Diogo Carvalho) which follows a group of heavy metal bandmates out to destroy the demons they helped summon. Long Pig and Azrael (illustrated by Emmanuel Casallos) follows a lonely hitchhiker and the demonic entity that is always following him. The Window (illustrated by Luay Garwan) features a down-on-their-luck family that moves into a new house… and discovers a passage to an alien world.

Bunn and Joe Bocardo’s apocalyptic vampire epic Nightwalkers, which was previously published in single issues, will join the line-up. It will be released in a collected edition and the series will be continuing through Outer Shadows.

And Bunn promises even more.

“We have several other comics and graphic novels in the works. Terrifying giant monster stories? You bet! Stories about infernally-possessed knickknacks? Of course! There are so many stories in the works, and I’m excited to make Outer Shadows a home for horror and dark fantasy comics.”

Outer Shadows publications will be released first as crowdfunding campaigns with Kickstarter. These campaigns will have options for every budget and reading preference. They will have low funding thresholds and, in many cases, shortened campaign durations. The crowdfunding campaigns will offer readers the chance to help in the creation of these comics and score some product offerings only available during the campaigns. After the campaigns are funded and delivered, comics in the line will also be distributed to the direct market.

Upcoming non-comics offerings from Outer Shadows include I’ll Kill You Last, an anthology of horror tales inspired by 80s action movies; Goblinville, a dark fantasy novella series; and The Complete Short Fiction of Cullen Bunn, a three-volume collection of Bunn’s prose short stories.
