Blake Lively will direct Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Seconds

Seconds

Blake Lively will make her directorial debut with Seconds, based on the graphic novel from Bryan Lee O’Malley. The screenplay has been adapted by Edgar Wright.

It is Lively’s feature directorial debut and the second to be based on O’Malley’s work, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World being the first.

Lively has directed before but this would be the first feature length film.

Seconds is about Katie, a restaurateur who discovers and then abuses magical mushrooms that allows her to change a decision in the past. The graphic novel was originally published by Ballatine Books and released in 2014.

Wright will serve as producer for the film and he co-wrote the adapted screenplay with Marc Platt. The film is being set up at Searchlight Pictures which puts it under Disney’s umbrella of films.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

BlackMarket01_CoverAWednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in! Below are ten suggestions of comics, graphic novels, or trade paperbacks you should spend some extra time checking out and think about picking up.

Top Pick: Black Market #1 (BOOM! Studios) – BOOM! latest property is courtesy of the talented Frank Barbiere and Victor Santos. The cure for all disease is within the blood of superheroes, the problem is, how do you go about getting it? A very interesting new twist to the genre.

Aphrodite IX/Cyber Force #1 (Top Cow) -Top Cow brings together the two franchises after their recent reboots.

Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Seconds (Random House) -This is O’Malley’s first project after his massively successful Scott Pilgrim series. That alone makes this graphic novel worth checking out. The world is curious as to what to expect.

The Devilers #1 (Dynamite) – Joshua Hale Fialkov’s creator owned series for Dynamite takes on religion, demons, etc. An interesting first issue that feels like it’s out of a horror movie.

Doberman #1 (Darby Pop Publishing/IDW Publishing) – There’s certain types of movies I loved in the 80s, and the over powerful he-man cop is one. If the movie Cobra was a comic, it’d probably be this.

Life With Archie #36 (Archie Comics) – It made massive news. Archie Andrews dies in this issue protecting a friend from a bullet. The curiosity alone gets this one to make the list.

Ms. Marvel #6 (Marvel) – One of Marvel’s best series features a brand new character with a voice unlike any other in comics. The story, the art, just beyond fantastic, and one of the best debuts this year.

She-Hulk #6 (Marvel) – Each issue has been fantastic, following the lawyer superhero She-Hulk as she attempts to build a practice and do the things a green skinned hulk would do.

The Wicked + The Divine #2 (Image Comics) -Kieron Gillen’s fascinating new series about gods coming to Earth.

Wildfire #2 (Top Cow) – Matt Hawkins explores the idea of genetically modified organisms in this all-too-real series.
