Skybound’s Walking Dead and Invincible join Lazarus Rising Games’ OverPower

OverPower Skybound

Lazarus Rising Games (LRG) expands the rebirth of its legendary 1990s collectible card game OverPower with the signing of a licensing agreement with Skybound Entertainment

The deal will bring Skybound into the OverPower universe starting in 2026, and will feature originals from Skybound’s robust library of IP, most notably Invincible and The Walking Dead. The roster joining OverPower’s decks will include characters such as Invincible, Omni-Man, Atom Eve and Battle Beast, as well as The Walking Dead fan favorites like Rick Grimes, Michonne, Negan and Maggie.

The addition of Skybound Entertainment characters and imagery follows LRG’s recent licensing deals with Top Cow Productions, Inc. and Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. – leading to the addition of Top Cow’s Witchblade, Darkness, and Cyberforce, as well as Burroughs’ iconic Tarzan of the Apes® and John Carter of Mars in the upcoming iterations of OverPower in 2025 and 2026.

Retailers will begin carrying new OverPower product on their shelves in mid-April 2025 that will feature original artwork from some of the finest artists in the comics and illustration industries today – such as Jae Lee, Jim Cheung, Raymond Gay, Phillip Tan, William Santos, and many more. OverPower will be available through ACD Distribution and GTS Distribution in the United States, while Universal Distribution will facilitate delivery in Canada.

In addition, LRG has created an advisory board that already features Ron Perazza, one of the original developers of the 1990s game, and Paul Bazakas, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing for GTS Distribution.

In collaboration with Carde.io, LRG has also recently launched its player portal, which features the card library for the upcoming Edgar Rice Burroughs set, a fully-assembled Deck Builder, National Elo Rankings, an event finder, and a reward shop. Interested players can visit/join the player portal at www.OverPower.com.

LRG is also in the final planning stages for a series of major tournaments across North America, highlighted by more than $100,000 in prize pools as well as exclusive merchandise. Announcements for the tournaments are forthcoming. Further, LRG continues to showcase OverPower at conventions and events around the country, most notably at a heavily trafficked interactive booth at 2024 New York Comic Con, and as part of an informative, entertaining panel at WonderCon 2025 in Anaheim. LRG already has strategized a noticeable presence at Origins Game Fair in June 2025, and has plans to showcase OverPower at important gaming and pop culture conventions throughout the year. For the past nine months, LRG has also executed a soft rollout of the game’s new aspects and cards, including two sets that sold out immediately.

Lazarus Rising Games has initiated its campaign to return the legendary 1990s collectible card game OverPower to its original glory, signing licensing deals with Top Cow Productions, Inc. and Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. to include the likes of Top Cow’s WitchbladeDarknessand Cyberforce, as well as Burroughs’ iconic Tarzan of the Apes and John Carter of MarsOverPower is set to formally relaunch in late 2024.

Formerly known as BMG & Associates, Lazarus Rising Games’ core ownership is comprised of a group who spent their youth playing OverPower – and continue to this day. Their passion for the game is the driving force of the company, and their experience ensures the game’s authenticity to its roots while relentlessly seeking new assets to infuse the game’s resurgence. As the collectible card game market has continued to once again blossom, the LRG team has sought to position OverPower at the center of that revival by appealing to the game’s loyal fans – and prospective new players – with the acquisition of new IPs, an inclusive, creative set of rules for smooth, exciting gameplay, and absolutely stunning artwork from some of the top illustrators in the games and comics industries.

Further establishing OverPower’s footprint, LRG has entrusted production of its cards to legendary Cartamondi, the worldwide leader in “play” solutions with a global brand portfolio that boasts a suite of heritage brands that go back as far as 1848, including global brands in the CCG market like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic The Gathering.

The licensing deal with Top Cow features characters from the company’s popular roster of properties, notably Witchblade, Darkness, Cyberforce, Cyberdata, Codename: Strykeforce, Aphrodite IX, Hunter Killer, Genius, Think Tank, Syphon and A Man Among Ye.

Beyond the deals with Top Cow & Burroughs, LRG has enlisted an impressive roster of illustrators to create images for the game, most notably renowned comic book & CCG artists Philip Tan, Jim Chung, and David Nakayama

LRG has already begun a soft rollout of the game’s new aspects and cards, initially offering two new sets earlier this year – which sold out immediately – for test-playing the new mechanics of the game. A new full core set is now in production with deliveries expected in early 2025, and additional expansions are in the works for Q4 of 2025. In addition, LRG is in active negotiations with a wide array of popular IPs to further enhance the game’s ever-expanding roster of beloved characters and exquisite artwork. OverPower fans and retailers are excited about the possibilities.
