Oni Press, Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris’ My Boyfriend is a Bear is Optioned by Legendary Entertainment

Oni Press and Oni Entertainment have announced that My Boyfriend is a Bear by Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris has been optioned by Legendary Entertainment. Oni Entertainment will executive produce alongside writer Pamela Ribon and Alex Hertzberg, with illustrator Cat Farris to co-produce. Pamela is also attached as screenwriter.

My Boyfriend is a Bear is an absurdist, modern romance story that follows Nora, who—after a succession of terrible boyfriends finds—true love with the most unexpected of suitors: a 500-pound American Black Bear. They’ll soon discover that hipster neighbors, judgmental friends, and Bear’s impending need for hibernation will put their relationship to the ultimate test.

Oni Entertainment is the film/TV division of Oni Press representing its diverse line of original comics and graphic novels in collaboration with, and for, its creators.

Oni Press’ Heartthrob Optioned for Television by Studio 8

Oni Press and Oni Entertainment have announced that Heartthrob by Christopher Sebela, Robert Wilson IV, and Nick Filardi, has been set up for television with Studio 8.

Oni Entertainment are attached as producers with Studio 8, alongside executive producers Riley Keough and Gina Gammell under their new Felix Culpa production company. Heartthrob creators Sebela, Wilson, and Filardi will also be on board as co-producers.

Heartthrob is the critically acclaimed comic book that mixes romance and heists in a story about second chances, Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” album, and a bank robbery spree fueled by love and revenge. The series, which launched in 2016 and is now in its second season, follows Callie, whom after gaining a new lease on life thanks to a heart transplant procedure, meets and falls in love with a mysterious master thief who also happens to be her heart donor.
