Deadpool

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Shawn Levy is in negotiations to direct Deadpool 3 for Marvel. The project would team Levy with star Ryan Reynolds again. The two previously worked on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The first film was directed by Tim Miller. The sequel was helmed by David Leitch.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will return to write the script for the third film having written the script for the first two. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin of Bob’s Burgers previously worked on a script for the film.

The Deadpool films are the top-grossing X-Men film so far with $783.1 million worldwide and the second earning $785.8 million worldwide. This is the first film under the Disney banner after the company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger said the third film would remain R-rated after concern of fans.

Deadpool is based on the character created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza for Marvel. The character debuted in New Mutants #98 which was released in February 1991.

Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin Tapped to write Deadpool 3

Deadpool shocked

Deadline is reporting that Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin have been tapped to write Deadpool 3. Writing meetings have taken play with star Ryan Reynolds over the past month to hear pitches for the film.

The film is in early development but the hiring is a big step for a film whose future was up in the air. Though the first two films did very well, the Fox X-Men related properties don’t have quite a clear path as the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Disney purchased Fox. This will be the first film under Marvel Studios.

Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin are sisters who are the creators, showrunners, and executive producers for the Fox series The Great North which premieres in February 2021. They are also writers and executive producers for the hit Bob’s Burgers, which is also on Fox. They won an Emmy Award in 2017 for the show and have been nominated for eight executive years. They’ve also been nominated for three WGA Awards and won a 2017 Annie Award. When it comes to films, they recently adapted the novel The People We Hate At The Wedding for FilmNation and the acclaimed videogame The Sims for Legendary. They also wrote Jump Street: Now For Her Pleasure for Sony.

While fingers have pointed at Disney for delays, rumors say that the delays are due to star Ryan Reynolds who reportedly has a say over the director for the franchise and whose demands are the real reason for things moving slowly.

Deadpool was released in 2016 and went on to earn $782.6 million worldwide off of a $58 million budget. Its sequel was released in 208 earning $785.8 million off of a $110 million budget.
