Wednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

Each week our contributors are choosing up to five books and why they’re choosing the books. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look!

Atomic Robo: Spectre of Tomorrow #1 (IDW Publishing) – Atomic Robo and his crew are back in a whole new adventure! If you’ve never read this series, now’s the time to start in a series that’s fun, full of action, with fantastic art, and great for young and old alike.

Batman #34 (DC Comics) – Batman and Catwoman are touring the globe after their engagement and the first stop is to take care of loose strings concerning his relationship with Talia Al-Ghul.

Batman: The Devestator #1 (DC Comics) – The latest one-shot focused on a Batman from the Dark Multiverse, this one mixing Batman with Doomsday!

Black Lightning: Cold, Dead, Hands #1 (DC Comics) – With a new television series around the corner, DC has launched this mini-series from the characters original creator. With a slight update for the times, the first issue is a fantastic read that touches upon real world issues.

Captain America #695 (Marvel) – Captain America’s reputation (and the character) are definitely at a low point thanks to a year and a half of stories that saw him betraying everything he stood for. Can the new creative team redeem the character?

Catalyst Prime: Noble #6 (Lion Forge Comics) – If you haven’t been checking out Lion Forge’s Catalyst Prime universe, you’re missing out. The comic line has diverse voices in creators, characters, styles, it’s a fresh take on the superhero genre.

Deadman #1 (DC Comics) – Neal Adams on Deadman… do you need to know anything else?

Gravediggers Union #1 (Image Comics) – A new Image series and this first issue is oversized. By Wes Craig and Toby Cypress, this series sees a group that are the only ones that can stop the apocalypse. Steroid zombies, monster gods, swamp vampires, ghost storms, and space monkeys!

The Jetsons #1 (DC Comics) – If you read the already released short take on these characters you’ll know why we’re excited for this new comic. A very interesting take on the classic characters that has us pondering existence.

Lazaretto #3 (BOOM! Studios) – A claustrophobic series taking place in a college dorm focused on an outbreak. The art has us mixed but the story is top notch and rather creep since it could really happen.

No. 1 With a Bullet #1 (Image Comics) – Another new Image series by Jacob Semahn and Jorge Corona that sounds like it takes on technology with a slight horror take. We always dig some good ole futurism.

Power Pack #63 (Marvel) – It’s Power Pack, that’s reason enough to get us excited.

TMNT/Ghostbusters II #1 (IDW Publishing) – The two franchises are back together and the Ghostbusters must save the Turtles from the ghost dimension.

Unpresidential (Z2 Comics) – Some solid satire on American politics and culture it features Kim Jong Un running for President.

The Walking Dead #173 (Skybound/Image Comics) – Things are heating up and we want to know what, and who, Michonne and her team discover!

Top Pick: Ragman #1 (DC Comics) – I’ve always been fond of this character: a Jewish vigilante preying on Gotham City criminals by harnessing the strength of the Souls of the Guilty as a redemptive force to help them reach heaven. Originally created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert back in 1976, he is now reimagined by the capable Ray Fawkes and Inaki Miranda.

Catalyst Prime Noble Vol 2 #1 (Lion Forge Comics) – Thus begins the second arc as Noble continues his quest to uncover the truth, but spurns his wife who must now fight to get the husband she knew back. It is penned by Brandon Thomas with art by Roger Robinson; and this week features a brilliant cover by Khary Randoph and Emilio Lopez!

Dying and the Dead #6 (Image Comics) – For a while I thought Hickman and Bodenheim had given up on this project. I’m glad they continued with the series centered on an aged commando team doing the dirty work for a secretive sect of Immortals.

BabyTeeth #5 (AfterShock Comics) – Donny Cates has been belting hit after hit, and this is no exception. marines, assassins, mom, and her newborn Antichrist are the frontliners in this well written action-packed series, featuring art by Garry Brown.

Grass Kings #8 (BOOM! Studios) – A well-crafted mystery series set in a fringe town of outcasts, produced by Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins.

Top Pick: Dark Knights: Metal #3 (DC Comics) – This event/story has been so crazy that it just works. Even the tie in books with Gotham Resistance, and all of the other Dark Knights has kept me excited and interested in something that’s creepy, bizarre, and fun. I am throwing up the devil horns on this one! Highly recommended!

Mister Miracle #3 (DC Comics) – Tom King is one of the best writers around, and most people would agree with that. Now add in an older and fun Kirby character and much like King did with Vision, throw him into something new, and you have an edge of your seat formula. King does vulnerable very good, and this has been fantastic so far.

Despicable Deadpool #287 (Marvel) – Deadpool vs. Cable, or at least that’s what this book is making us think. It’s a classic fight between two over the top characters that are getting ready to buddy up or fight in the Deadpool 2 movie. The solicits say Deadpool is turning back into more of a villain, since he has been down on his luck, and has made some pretty major mistakes lately. I am hyped for this one.

Royal City #6 (Image Comics) – Jeff Lemire is one of the best creators in comics right now. I love his writing. I love his art, and I love this series. This follows a family that while it plays with some supernatural elements, it feels very real, and full of emotions. The first trade released just recently, so grab it and see what all the fuss is about.

Animosity Vol. 2 TP (AfterShock Comics) – If you haven’t read this series, then now is the time to grab both trades. It’s a post-apocalyptic world run by animals who can speak. Some want peace, some want revenge, and the humans must do what they can to survive. It’s a lot of fun, and sad at times, but it is an awesome concept and execution.

Top Pick: Falcon #1 (Marvel) – Marvel Legacy has been kicking off and it’ll be interesting to see where this character and series goes, especially considering the entire concept of Captain America has been tarnished and Sam Wilson’s own recent series.

Fighting American #1 (Titan Comics) – The classic character is back and it’s great to see it. I have no idea what to expect but this is one I’ve been looking forward to reading.

Ghost Money #3 (Lion Forge Comics) – The first two issues have been intriguing as all the money gained from 9/11 is explored. Interesting plot and things have really been picking up.

Lazaretto #2 (BOOM! Studios) – A horror comic featuring college students quarantined in a dorm at a college. It’s claustrophobic in all the right ways.

Mech Cadet Yu #3 (BOOM! Studios) – Kids and giant robots! Greg Pak’s writing is absolutely amazing and the art is a really interesting style that enhances the youthful feel of the book. Absolutely love this series.

Top Pick: Superman #28 (DC Comics) – As part two of what has been one of my favorite comic tales for all of 2017 so far, to say I am amped up for “Road Trip” part 2 is quite the understatement. I enjoyed the first half so much that I can’t wait for a further look into the Kents impromptu jaunt across the good ole USA. Many touching scenes and cool moments we aren’t usually treated to in the comic books of these days and I want to be fed more that please!

Batman #28 (DC Comics) – This story has been back and forth in terms of good/ bad and coming off of a stellar interlude issue with the origin of Kite Man once again my interest has peaked. The homerun team of Grayson (King/ Janin) has a .500 average right now, I’m hoping they can break the spell and drill this one out of the park. It certainly has a lot of potential and I for one don’t want to leave the game early.

TMNT Dimension X #1 (IDW Publishing) – After the Free Comic Book Day special was such a blast, I am looking very forward to the Turtles returning to Dimension X. This title has been amazing since it’s become an IDW property and I see no signs of it slowing down. The road to issue 100 is going to be a fun one. Cowabunga!

X-Men Gold #9 (Marvel Comics) – Just like the title states, gold is what this has been since the relaunch. In fact it’s one of the only readable Marvel comics in the entire pantheon these days. Plus who doesn’t like them some Peter and Kitty? Nuff said.

Top Pick: Champions #11 (Marvel) – I just love this title; the action is good, love the characters and the team line up and I really like that between the super heroics, this title deals with issues that we see in our world every day, making it relevant and connecting with its readers. You’re missing out if you’re not reading this title.

Jessica Jones #11 (Marvel) – This has been an interesting title, and I am really liking the current story with Jessica getting stuck in the middle of Maria Hill, her secrets and the consequences of those secrets catching up with her. It’s a good read and one of my favorite characters.

X-Men Gold #9 (Marvel) – This has been a solid title from the beginning and one that I look forward to reading. I’m looking forward to this, as I always like to see Kitty and Colossus team up…and I know it’s corny, but I still get excited for the ‘will they or won’t they’ vibe I get when they’re teamed up, facing a threat together.

God Country TP (Image) – I love this book. This is a brilliant take on characters like Thor, with a senile old man who remembers his life when he holds a living sword that talks. So damn good!

Seven to Eternity #8 (Image) – Remender’s fantasy epic has been dark (like most of his work), unpredictable and exciting. I always am excited for more of his work.

Low #19 (Image) – Speaking of Remender, I wish this underwater (mostly) book came out faster, because it has been incredible so far.

All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #7 (Marvel) – Duggan is turning into a powerhouse at Marvel. I’ve loved him on Deadpool and he fits perfectly with this team.

Top Pick: Mech Cadet Yu #1 (BOOM! Studios) – I love giant robots and this series seems to scratch that itch with a story that seems like it’s geared towards all-ages with some art that has caught my eye. Since its announcement, this is one I’ve been excited to read and now I finally have the chance.

Catalyst Prime: Noble #4 (Lion Forge Comics) – Lion Forge is doing something special here putting together a world that’s diverse in every sense. Characters, creators, locations, concepts, it’s a prime example of how to do it right.

Dead of Winter #1 (Oni Press) – The popular board game comes to comics and I’m really excited to see how it all translates.

Generations: Banner Hulk & Totally Awesome Hulk (Marvel) – I’m intrigued, I have to admit. I’m not sure what to expect from these comics that bring together classic characters with their more modern version.

Stained #4 (451 Media) – The previous three issues have been amazing in this cyberpunk/noir mashup that has such an air of cool about it all. Kind of hard to jump in on the fourth issue, but well worth grabbing if you can get all of the back issues too.

Top Pick: DC Comics Bombshells #32 (DC Comics) – Marguerite Bennett wrote this issue and it’s all about bad ass ladies kicking ass, heroes, antiheroes and those who inhabit the area in between. Multifaceted female comic book characters with levels? This is everything we’ve been waiting for.

Top Pick: Harley’s Little Black Book HC (DC Comics) – I am wildly, madly in love with Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti portrayal of the complex Quinn. Now almost everything I love about their take on the character is in one place! Harley Quinn getting her love and hate on, in sexy hard cover format. What’s not to love about Harley going toe to toe with heroes and villains and everyone else? I’ve got a space for this one , right next to Fight Club 2!

Ghost Station Zero #1 (Image) – I’m intrigued by the concept. I love a bad ass lady with a blade.

Top Pick: Deathstroke #21 (DC Comics) – This new team is super intriguing, and this run has already been great. The inclusion of Kid Flash intrigues me, as I’ve been reading Teen Titans too. DC has done a wonderful job of their universe and having things carry over to other books, and this is a great example of that.

Extremity #5 (Image Comics) – Johnson has crafted a fun and beautiful looking sci-fi/fantasy tale following our main character, who lost their drawing arm. The art is awesome, the action is great, and I recommend this book in single issue or the inevitable trade that will follow soon.

Batman #26 (DC Comics) – The “War of Jokes and Riddles” part two comes out this week, and I cannot wait. These versions of Joker and Riddler are fun, and I’ve enjoyed King’s run, even if it has been polarizing.

Superman #26 (DC Comics) – One of my favorite Rebirth comics. Tomasi and Gleason have weaved a fantastic series of arcs that have set up some fantastic things, including pulling in pieces of the new 52 run. I dig every issue.

Seven to Eternity #7 (Image Comics) – Remender’s crazy fantasy tale following the rag-tag group of misfits as they travel across a world that is enslaved by the God of Whispers. Highly recommended.

Top Pick: Motor Girl #7 (Abstract Studios) – Terry Moore’s series is one of the most entertaining out there and my favorite debut of the year so far. It’s a fantastic mix of sci-fi, humor, and tons of heart in a way that’s rare in today’s comic market. Add in the fact the main character Sam has a brain tumor, is kick-ass, served in the military, and her best friend is a talking ape, you also have one of the best characters of the year.

Catalyst Prime: Noble #3 (Lion Forge) – The Catalyst line of comics from Lion Forge has been one of the freshest universe debuts in a while. The characters and voices are diverse and its lead title Noble has sucked me into this new world leaving me wanting more.

The Unsound #2 (BOOM! Studios) – Cullen Bunn is a fantastic horror writer and the art from Jack Cole enhances the creepy atmosphere set up in this new series.

The Walking Dead #169 (Skybound/Image Comics) – All these issues in writer Robert Kirkman has shaken things up a lot and shaken some characters. I’m sucked in as to where it’s all going to go from here!

X-Men: Gold #7 (Marvel) – It’s taken quite some time but Marvel’s X-Men line is back and as reminding me of some of the classic runs I loved reading as a kid.

Top Pick: Bloodshot’s Day Off (Valiant) – Eliot Rahal is one of the most exciting writers in comics today. Bloodshot is an awesome character. A winning combination?

Batman #26 (DC Comics) – So.. Tom King has been on a winning streak lately. Here’s hoping he can continue on with that this week.

Iceman #1 (Marvel) – Marvel finally gives us a solo comic with a queer male lead, and it’s one of my all-time favorite X-Men, Iceman. I love Iceman because of his sense of humor as well as how he struggles to live up to his Omega mutant potential. I’m excited to see Sina Grace’s approach to superheroes after writing/drawing some kick-ass autobio comics, like Not My Bag and Self-Obsessed, and Alessandro Vitti’s work on Secret Warriors was fantastic too so it looks like Bobby is in good hands.

Giant Days #27 (BOOM! Studios) – Esther going political should be a treat, and I’m really interested to see what our favorite Goth drama queen has to say about thinly veiled parodies of Nigel Farage, Theresa May, and Jeremy Corbyn. Giant Days is my go-to slice of life and humor comic, and I can’t wait to see what hilarious moments John Allison, Max Sarin, Liz Fleming, and Whitney Cogar have cooked up.

Batman #24 (DC Comics) – From the solicit, it looks like this issue will be the connective tissue between “The Button” and the upcoming “War of Jokes and Riddles”. One thing I’ve liked about Tom King and David Finch’s run is their ability to tell epic scope stories in the confines of one book, and I’m looking forward to seeing their takes on more of Batman’s classic rogues. Also, Catwoman/Batman romance is always fun, and King has given them some flirty chemistry in previous isuses. (See “The Bat and the Cat” one-off from him and Mitch Gerads)

Nothing Lasts Forever OGN (Image) – This is really a good week to be a Sina Grace fan even though it seems like the next issue of Lil Depressed Boy is light years away. I really enjoy how honest he is in his memoirs, and how his art doesn’t idealize Grace’s body and reactions to the world around him. Plus this graphic novel seems to have more of a central narrative focus than his previous book Self-Obsessed , and it’ll nice to see the character of Sina Grace grow and develop through all the hardships he faces in the story.

KISS/Vampirella #1 (Dynamite) – One thing I love about Dynamite is their no holds barred approach to crossovers. Casting Vampirella as the frontwoman of an all-girl band in L.A. in the 1970s sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Plus throw in the insanity of the KISS mythos and plenty of supernatural elements, and this should definitely be a unique comic from Chris Sebela and Annapaola Martello.

Top Pick: Champions #9 (Marvel) – I have really been enjoying this book and it just gets better and better with every issue. The action is great, but it’s the banter between the team that really makes this book work and shows them growing closer together. This issue will be focusing on Viv Vision, and if you read The Vision series, you know she has been through a lot. This will no doubt be a great read.

Iceman #1 (Marvel) – I’m interested in seeing how Bobby will be explored in this new solo title and how he can carry a book on his own. I know he’s had limited series’ in the past, but I didn’t bother with them. And with the time displaced, younger Iceman being so different from the Iceman we know, I’m curious to see what direction Bobby will go in next.

X-Men Gold #5 (Marvel) – This title has brought the X-Men back to being super heroes and has been a great read so far. A classic line up and great action makes this a book you don’t want to miss. And now the team is facing a new generation of Sentinel; of course the X-Men need Sentinels to fight, it’s a rule.

Top Pick: Dark Knight III The Master Race #9 (DC Comics) – This series hasn’t lived up to the pedigree of what it should be known for, but I’ve still enjoyed it. Here we get the final issue and it’s still Frank Miller, so I’m excited to see how this all plays out, and appreciate the career of one of the greats.

Paper Girls #15 (Image) – The other book that Vaughn writes currently, and one that should also be required reading. This is part sci-fi, goonies, and much more as this awesome cast of female characters find their way through time, and some weird Apple products.

Batman #24 (DC Comics) – Another issue to slow things down after “The Button”. I am eager to take time to reflect on the Bane aftermath, Gotham Girl, Catwoman and Batman’s relationship, and to take a quick look at where everything is at before we take a break for the upcoming “The War of Jokes and Riddles”.

Superman #24 (DC Comics) – One of the most consistent books coming from DC Rebirth. It looks like this will deal with the continuing Hamilton County story, as the Kents already moved back to Metropolis in Action Comics.

All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #3 (Marvel) – I have been pleasantly surprised with this title so far. It has only been two issues, but so far so good from the creative team of Duggan and Kuder.

Top Pick: Divided States of Hysteria #1 (Image) – Holding up a mirror to the US that’s just as frightening as what’s going on in the real world. I expect this one to be way more interesting than a Trump tweet with an equal amount of societal terror.

Top Pick: Suicide Squad Vol. 2 Going Sane (DC Comics) – Kryptonite, Lex Luther, Amanda Waller and all kinds of world ending Squad hijinks collected in one volume, containing four of my fave issues with a bonus Harley comic!

Bane Conquest #2 (DC Comics) – Nobody puts Bane-y in a corner er, I mean cell. This is one promising issue showcasing pure Bane badassery and some back story in kings.

Harley Quinn #21 (DC Comics) – The beginning of the Red Roses story arc part deux focuses on the interesting relationship and unrequited, maybe, love between Red Tool and Harley and I’m all kinds of ready to sip that crazy tea.

Bullseye #5 (Marvel) – SHIELD to the rescue, or capture, Bullseye’s mission coming to an end and what promises to be a great story.

Top Pick: Catalyst Prime Noble #2 (Lion Forge) – The first issue was top notch as we’re introduced into this new world that beyond the superpowers actually looks like a world we live in. Diversity on the page (beyond characters, but locations, situations, dynamics) and on the creative end are already paying off in an entertaining way.

The Flintstones #12 (DC Comics) – Some of the best political and social commentary anywhere wraps up with this final issue. Twelve issues weren’t enough and at the same time, it feels like we didn’t deserve this beyond intelligent comic series.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #1 (Marvel) – Writer Charles Soule tackles this new series focusing on Vader and the time after Episode III as he was learning to become Vader, a Sith, and the dawn of the Empire.

The Unsound #1 (BOOM! Studios) – A new horror series from writer Cullen Bunn. His previous horror series have all been top notch and I’d expect no less from this.

The Walking Dead #168 (Skybound/Image Comics) – The last issue showed this series can still surprise and deliver a punch to the gut. This issue begins the fallout in what I imagine will be a not very stable Rick.
