Dark Horse and Charlize Theron’s Secret Menu team for Imbokodo

Dark Horse Books presents the epic Afrofuturistic saga Imbokodo, now available in a paperback volume that gathers all four issues of the comic series together in one book. The series is written by Thabo Rametsi and Thabiso Mabanna of Nguniverse Studios, with art, colors, and cover art by Katlego Motaung, letters by Frank Cvetkovic, and logo art by Gil Lazcano. It was developed in partnership with Secret Menu, the new media venture recently launched by Academy Award-winning actress and producer Charlize Theron, Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono, and AJ Dix, with an eye towards a scripted adaptation.

In the land of the pyramid sun, Ndawo, a single step for the Badimu (Gods) is a thousand Muntu (human) lifetimes. And in the war of the Badimu, from the smallest cut shall flow rivers of Muntu blood… endless rivers of blood.

War breaks out among the Badimu, casting a darkness over Ndawo. A darkness that would birth genocide and war among the Muntu. And now, a thousand years later—Ndawo remains divided into several Empires. As the brutal war reaches a bloody crescendo, numerous young girls mysteriously go missing from their villages in the empire of Mwenemutapa, leaving behind only a trail of carnage in their wake.

In Mwenemuntapa, a nameless woman, whose sister is among the missing, fights to join the ranks of the elite warriors tasked with investigating the missing girls. They are the greatest warriors in all of Ndawo—they are THE IMBOKODO.

Exclusive: My Year as Emma is a timely story about holding true to your identity, no matter the consequences

Dark Horse Books presents the graphic novel adaptation of screenwriter, producer, actress and Roadmap Diversity Winner Amena Kheshtchin-Kamel’s (The General, and currently unannounced AAA game studio feature adaptation) year-long social experiment living as a “popular white girl everyone wants to know” named Emma Kinsley. My Year as Emma chronicles the descent of a woman comfortable in her heritage and culture into becoming someone else to further her dreams and the toll that kind of dilution of self can take on your family, friends, and your own psyche. Kheshtchin-Kamel retells her satirical story through her own words and cover art, with illustrations by Giulia Giacomino. My Year as Emma showcases a unique perspective of a passing woman of color (WOC), what her journey says about our society and the many ways modern professionals must market themselves to a white-centered palette.

Young Persian/Egyptian-American actress Amena Kheshtchin-Kamel changed her name, appearance, and legal identity to a blonde white woman to escape stereotyping and break into Hollywood. What follows is a wild ride of navigating the unlocked universe of social acceptance, Cannes Film Festival invitations, and all the perks that come with her newfound persona as Emma. But, with mounting success after cutting herself off from her culture, will she solidify her identity as Emma Kinsley or stay true to herself?

Based on a true story, My Year As Emma will be available in (6.625” x 10.1875”, 96 pages) paperback at bookstores on March 18, 2025, and comic shops on March 19, 2025 for $19.99.
