Review: Green Lantern #24

Green Lantern #24 CoverGreen Lantern #24 has hit shelves and with it the first part of Lights Out, a crossover event that promises to change the Green Lantern universe forever. Relic arrives on Oa as this massive story kicks off! Can the different Lantern Corps come together to stop this powerful enemy? Lights Out will see Lanterns die, others change allegiances—and it seems nothing will be the same ever again!

Relic has a mission, to end the various corps. and the use of light by them. He started with the Blue Lantern Corps. destroying everyone except one and next on his mission is Oa and the Green Lantern Corps. With the prelude and now this first chapter, it’s clear the GL team has a goal of changing the Lantern world going forward.

I’ve been reading the various Green Lantern comics for years now, and with this beginning shot, I really feel like they’re meeting their match and I seriously have no idea what might happen next. Venditti has set things up and knocked it out of the park with this first part of the crossover. The Green Lantern Corps. truly feels like it’s up against the wall.

I’ve said on a few occasions, it’s felt like there’s been a bit of ring proliferation. The corps. and the chapters have grown really big and almost too powerful. It seems the team is looking to reset that issue and creating actual danger and situations where the Lanterns might actually struggle.

Relic is a great addition to the Lantern mythos and I seriously have no idea what might happen next and how this all will get resolved. For this team to do that is impressive. It’s looking like Lights Out might be a hell of an event, one that’ll fly under the radar from all of the other more high-profile ones going on. Do yourself a favor and pick this up as well as the lead up to it.
