Wolverine meets Freddie Mercury
Ask me who the greatest band of all time was, the answer is Queen and greatest frontman is Freddie Mercury, so that’s why I got excited when I saw this io9 article recounting a comic pitch to Marvel where Wolverine meets the musical god that is Mercury. Marvel bullpen member Steve Bunche recalled this brilliance coming across his desk:
During my years in the Mighty Marvel Bullpen (February 1990-October 1998), one of my favorite pastimes was collecting the frequently wacky and often downright insane letters and submissions sent in by Marvel’s readers and eager hopefuls who aspired to join the ranks of Chris Claremont and Frank Miller as comic book storytellers […]
Seriously, how the fuck does someone even make the leap in narrative logic from depicting Wolverine stalking through the forest to having him run into Freddie Mercury of Queen for no apparent reason? That, dear readers, is a sign of true creativity.
Recently Colleen Coover decided to take up this random meeting in her own take.
So what’s your idea for a random musician/comic book character meeting?
(via io9)
Hilarious. Perhaps Flash and Keith Moon, more importantly – What would your combination be?
When I originally saw this I thought Ted Nuggent and the Punisher
Haha fantastic, how long were you in the Marvel family for?
I was never with Marvel. The guy who first posted this was.
Ah I see. You seem to know a huge amount about the topic, It’s very interesting to read. Enjoyed the humorous sketch. Keep them coming!
If Archie can meet the Punisher, then Wolverine could meet Freddy Mercury.
Oh, I just remembered: Spider-Man once teamed up with the cast of Saturday Night Live, so precedent for this kind of thing has been set. That’s it! I’m done thinking about Marvel comic books for the night.
