Thanos’ Dark History with Asgard revealed in Thor #29

In the opening arc of Donny Cates and Nic Klein’s hit run of Thor, fans witnessed a disturbing vision of the Mad Titan Thanos laying waste to the Marvel Universe! Since then, Thor has done everything in his power to prevent this future from coming to pass, but has it been enough? Find out as this brewing plot comes to the forefront in a brand new arc starting December titled “The Legacy of Thanos.” The arc will be penned by guest writer Torunn Grønbekk who will join returning series artist Nic Klein for an adventure starring Thor and the Valkyrie Rúna. The arc will spin directly out of Thanos: Death Notes, the oversized Thanos one-shot hitting stands in November, and it will serve as a pivotal prelude to Cates and Klein’s future plans for Thanos’ upcoming conquest.

When a universally loathed foe kidnaps Thor’s baby sister Laussa and drags her so deep beyond Hel that not even Sif’s All-Sight can see her, the God of Thunder must call upon the one ally who has traveled so far into the unknown before: Rúna. Marvel announces the 2023 Class of Stormbreakers

Marvel Comics has announced the 2023 class of Marvel’s Stormbreakers, the premier talent distinction program that spotlights the next generation of elite artists in the industry.

The creators in the new class, selected for their style, achievements, and groundbreaking work, include Elena Casagrande (Black Widow), Nic Klein (Thor)Jan Bazaldúa (Legion of X), Chris Allen (Miles Morales), Martin Coccolo (Deadpool), Lucas Werneck (Immortal X-Men), C.F. Villa (X-Men), and Federico Vicentini (X Deaths of Wolverine).

MARVEL’S STORMBREAKERS CLASS OF 2023

  • Elena Casagrande (Black Widow):At a young age, Elena followed her passion for drawing and enrolled at the International School of Comics in Rome. While in school, she worked with IDW Publishing on comics like Star Trek and X-Files. Now, her work for Marvel includes drawing Spider-Man (Marvel Heartbreakers – A Chemical Romance, Ultimate Spider-Man #157), Magik (variant cover New Mutant #4), Spitfire (Women of Marvel), and Red Hulk (Hulk). Most recently, she was also the artist of the new Black Widow series, which won the 2021 Eisner Award for Best New Series.
  • Nic Klein (Thor)Nic is a German comic book artist who has worked on such titles as Captain America, Winter Soldier, and Deadpool. For Image Comics he co-created Viking, Dancer, and Drifter. He is currently working on the new Thor run.
  • Jan Bazaldúa (Legion of X): Jan started her career as assistant of Sixto Valencia, one of the most prominent comic book artists in Mexico. For over two decades, she worked in almost every genre in Mexican comic books including action, comedy, horror, western, detective, romance, and wrestling stories, pencilling over 3,000 covers. Jan brought her hyperkinetic art style to Spider-Man for a star-marking run as the young Miles Morales took on the all-new Sinister Six in Spider-Man #234-239. She burnished her reputation with titles including Mr. and Mrs. X and Loki, and her fast-growing list of Marvel credits now includes X-Force, Winter Guard, and a trip to the far-off galaxy of Star Wars.
  • Chris Allen (Miles Morales): Chris made his Marvel Comics debut illustrating the movie tie-in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude, followed by Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp Prelude. The Texas-based artist has been steadily building reputation by taking on one-shots including Heroes Reborn: American Knights and Spider-Man: Reptilian Rage, as well as contribute to Marvel’s Voices: Legacy. He later graduated to his first Marvel ongoing series, Miles Morales: Spider-Man. Elsewhere, Chris has demonstrated his artistic range, illustrating dark titles including Tomb of Horror, as well as the colorful adventures of such iconic characters as Sonic the Hedgehog and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
  • Martin Coccolo (Deadpool): Born in Colonia, Uruguay, Martin developed an interest in art and comics very early on in life. After years of being an art assistant, he decided to pursue a career in the comics Industry. Starting with small, independent publishers, he forged a path that would eventually lead him to work for APE Entertainment’s “Helldorado,” a work which landed him a nomination for the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award. He then went on to work on IDW’s Magic: The Gathering series for many issues before being recruited by DC Entertainment. After many projects for a variety of publishers, he started working for Marvel in 2021, and continues to do so to this day.
  • Lucas Werneck (Immortal X-Men): Lucas is a Brazilian comic book artist and illustrator. He began working in the comics industry in 2019 and has since worked for major publishers such as Marvel Comics, Boom Studios, and DC Comics. He has already worked on several titles such as Captain America, Trial of Magneto, and Fantastic Four, andis currently working on Immortal X-Men.
  • C.F. Villa (X-Men): C.F. is a concept artist and illustrator born in Hermosillo, Sonora, México with 12 years of experience working in film, animation, and more recently the comic book industry. Being a 90’s comics consumer, he grew up being influenced by artists such as Humberto Ramos, Joe Madureira, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, as well as many manga artists and European masters of illustration.  In 2018, his work at Marvel began with his first two miniseries, Lockjaw and Shatterstar. He has also been featured in various X-Men titles, and in 2021, wrapped his run on the Black Cat series.
  • Federico Vicentini (X Deaths of Wolverine): Italian artist Federico is a fast-rising star, having proved his flair for drawing web-slinging action with a pair of wall-crawlers on Amazing Spider-Man and Absolute Carnage: Miles Morales. Federico illustrated the Falcon & Winter Soldier team-up comic book series before turning his attention to another high-profile Marvel character in X Deaths of Wolverine, and then the ongoing Wolverine title. Increasingly in demand, Federico contributed to Marvel’s Heroes Reborn event and made his mark on another Marvel epic, tackling the A.X.E. Avengers one-shot.

Wakanda explores a nation without its king

This October, acclaimed writers and artists throughout the comic book industry will come together to highlight the rich tapestry of the Black Panther’s homeland like never before in Wakanda, a brand-new limited series! Spinning out of recent events in John Ridley’s epic run on Black Panther, T’Challa is no longer welcome in the land he once ruled. Who is this proud nation without its king? This exciting new miniseries answers that question and more as each issue spotlights a different fan-favorite Wakandan character as they rise up to protect their great nation in exciting new stories by a wide range of creators.

In Wakanda #1, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Paco Medina will start things off with an in-depth tale about T’Challa’s genius younger sister and former Black Panther, Shuri. Shuri proves that being without the Black Panther doesn’t mean Wakanda is without heroes to protect it – and that there is a reason she too once wielded the power.

Each issue of Wakanda will also contain a “History of the Black Panthers” backup story by writer Evan Narcisse and artist Natacha Bustos, providing for the first time anywhere a definitive overview of all the Wakandans who have held the mantle of the Black Panther!

The debut issue features a main cover by Mateus Manhanini and variants by Nic Klein and Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.

A.X.E.: Judgement Day Gets Character-Focused One-Shots

Kieron Gillen and Valerio Schiti’s A.X.E.: Judgement Day engulfs the Marvel Universe starting next month! Building off of recent events in Avengers, X-Men, and Eternals, this latest Marvel Comics crossover event begins when the Eternals target mutantkind and the Avengers find themselves struggling to prevent an apocalyptic war between two of the strongest factions on the planet. A.X.E.: Judgement Day will be a six-issue epic that will tie-in to various ongoing series and launch new limited series and one-shots, including three written by Gillen himself that will bridge the gap between the penultimate and final issue. Teaming up with a superstar trio of artists, Federico Vicentini, Francesco Mobili, and Pasqual Ferry, Gillen will focus on a key character from each of the three involved factions. These essential issues will spotlight Iron Man, Jean Grey, and Ajak as they embark on a vital and complex mission to penetrate the Progenitor Celestial and shut it down, facing their ultimate judgment every step of the way.

The King in Black and King of Asgard Team Up in Thor #27

Two kings of the Marvel Universe will battle alongside each other to combat a new threat to Earth this July!

Thor, King of Asgard, and Eddie Brock, the symbiote’s King in Black, will set aside any personal differences and join forces in an upcoming arc of Donny Cates and Nic Klein’s acclaimed Thor series. Beginning in Thor #27, the two-part saga will be Cates’ grand reunion with Venom, the character he redefined in his historic Venom run that came to an end last year. Now delivering that same treatment to Thor, Cates’ latest thunderous arc will continue to revolutionize the Thor mythos and raise the stakes for what’s been building up since issue #1.

And Venom won’t be the only guest star! Superstar artist Salvador Larroca will be drawing this thrilling two-parter, with regular series artist Nic Klein set to return for Thor #29.
