Gender Through Comic Books, The Free Comics Course

Mark Waid on his blog last night posted about the new online course by Ball State University, “Gender Through Comic Books.” The all-star group of comic creators getting behind this education experience includes Brian K. Vaughan, Scott Snyder, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Dan Slott, Terry Moore, Jonathan Hickman, Brian Michael Bendis, Gail Simone, Waid and more. That’s an impressive line up of talent.

The course is the brainchild of Christy Blanch. It’s a Massive Open Online Course, which makes it freely available to anyone, anywhere across the world. As long as you have web access, you’re good. There’s no cost, no obligation, and you can enroll now here.

Here’s the description directly from the course website:

The course, led by Christina Blanch of Ball State University, uses a study of comic books incorporating highly interactive video lectures, online discussions between students, and real-time socially driven interviews. Interviews with the comic industry’s biggest names such as Terry Moore, Brian K Vaughan, Mark Waid, as well as others address questions of gender representations and constructions involving both men and women.

There’ll be live weekly interviews as well with creators and editors who will be taking questions live through Twitter.

If you’re still not convinced, here’s a video promoting the course.
