(August 19, 2011-New York, NY) Red Stylo Media is announcing the release of its newest title, The Poe Twisted Anthology, a collection of original comic stories and art inspired by the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. The collection includes work from thirteen writers and artists collaborating on seven short graphic stories and eight vignettes. This anthology will be released both digitally and in print. Each of the individual stories is available for download at RedStylo.com, DriveThruComics.com and will also be available on Graphic.ly. The digital editions contain exclusive special features only available online and are $1.99 each. The printed anthology (full-color paperback, 90 pages) will be released August 21. In the introduction, anthology editor Enrica Jang writes that Poe Twisted “began as a challenge to a new crop of comics artists to take the characters or setting from a favorite Edgar Allan Poe story, twist them, and make something new.” Rather than merely adapting well-loved Poe stories or poems, Poe Twisted stands on its own as “[a]collection of horror and hilarity, touched by the dark genius of the master, and yet with many an ironic jab and poke at him too. A parody here, a sequel there, but all of the pieces mutated re-imaginings of Poe characters in new worlds. Or Poe worlds in new characters.”

Edited by Enrica Jang, “The Poe Twisted Anthology” includes the following comic short stories:

• “Absolution.” Writer Jason Ciaramella (2011 Eisner Award nominee for The Cape) and artist Enrique Savory, Jr., team up in this sad tale of a grieving father driven mad by one of his son’s Christmas toys. A tribute to Poe’s classic poem, “the Raven.”

• “Dead Man’s Hand.” College card-shark, Toby, thinks it’s just another frat-house Poker night. The stakes are high and Toby is all in when a devilish coed mysteriously appears and calls his bluff. Story and art by Phillip Jacobson.

• “Eldorado.” The sun sets on a three-hundred year quest for fabled riches and gold in this zombie Western, titled after the poem of the same name. Written by film director Sherezada Windham-Kent (Everything I Needed to Know About Zombies I Learned From the Movies, 2009) with art by animator/comics artist, Alex Cormack.

• “Zombie Cruise” by Marta Tanrikulu, with art by Mark Mullaney. Trouble—and plague—brew on the high seas in this bio-medical thriller, a twist on Poe’s short story, “The Oblong Box.”

• “The Tell Tale Cat.” Beat cops Lansdowne and Harrington collar more than they bargained for in this noire police adventure, written and drawn by Alex Cormack. The story is parody of events in Poe’s “The Black Cat” and “The Tell Tale Heart.”

• “The After Party” by Kyle Richey, art by Ben Frazier. Wesley Prince has credit cards, his father’s mansion all to himself, and enough drugs to kill a few hundred fellow classmates in this twisted spinoff of the phantasmagoric classic “Masque of the Red Death,”

• “The System of Doctor Canne and Professor Bulle” by Mark Mullaney. Have someone special for dinner in this story of a free-range asylum, a sequel to Poe’s tale of insanity run amok, “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether.”
POE TWISTED also includes a special collection of original comic vignettes:

• Artist Dirk Strangely (Graveyard Girl, Dirk Strangely’s Completely Inappropriate for Children Children’s Book) is inspired by the figure of Poe himself in two series of Gorey-esque portraits.

• Painter Andrew Jerz brings Poe spoofs to the big screen with a mini-collection of grindhouse movie posters: Lenore, Amonstrillado, and Careful Coffins for the Concerned Cataleptic.

• Illustrator Jason Strutz’s ironic print gallery re-imagines “The Tell Tale Heart,” “The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall” and “The Murders in the Rue Morgue.”

IDW Honored with 12 Eisner Nominations

Nominations include Best Continuing Series and Best Archival Collection

San Diego, CA (April 7, 2011)—With today’s announcement of the 2011 nominations for the Will Eisner Comic Industry awards, IDW Publishing and its team of stellar creators and editors have been honored with twelve separate nominations, the most in company history. Showcasing the company’s wide range of projects, six separate books and series received nominations.

“These many nominations covering the breadth of IDW’s diverse product line are so gratifying to see,” said Ted Adams, IDW co-founder and chief executive officer. “We strive hard every month to produce books that run the gamut of comic book fans’ interest, and it’s nice to see a spotlight shined on so many of these books.”

Recently the basis for a FOX Television pilot, IDW’s acclaimed series LOCKE & KEY tops the company’s nominations with four separate nods. Created by best-selling prose author Joe Hill, with art by Gabriel Rodriguez, LOCKE & KEY is up for Best Continuing Series, Best Single Issue (Locke & Key: Keys to the Kingdom #1), Best Writer (Joe Hill) and Best Penciller/Inker (Gabriel Rodriguez). Hill is also a member of the creative team for THE CAPE, nominated for Best Single Issue, along with Jason Ciaramella and Zack Howard.

“I’m really gratified by all the nominations and especially the nods for LOCKE & KEY and THE CAPE,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s chief creative officer and the editor of both nominated comics. “Anything that brings more focus to these two great series makes me happy. We really believe in LOCKE & KEY, which is why it’s the focus of our Free Comic Day issue this year, and we’re very high on its chances to get picked up as a TV series. And THE CAPE has gone from a little sold-out one-shot to an all-new series this June, so I love the idea of these nominations bringing more attention to the great work the creators are doing on both of these comics.”

THE OUTFIT, the second installment of Darywn Cooke’s graphic novel adaptation series, Richard Stark’s Parker, is nominated for Best Writer/Artist (Darywn Cooke) and Best Lettering (Darywn Cooke). The first book in the series, THE HUNTER, won the Eisner for Best Adaptation from Another Work in 2010.

“I’m very happy that Darwyn has once again been recognized by the Eisner voting committee,” said editor Scott Dunbier. “He’s a terrific writer and artist and never gives less than his all—congrats, my friend!”

After launching to huge praise at San Diego Comic Con in 2010, IDW’s inaugural Artist’s Edition book, DAVE STEVENS’ THE ROCKETEER, is recognized with two Eisner nominations, for Best Archival Collection/Project – Strips and Best Publication Design. This amazing edition is edited by Scott Dunbier and designed by Randall Dalhk.

IDW’s archival imprint, the Library of American Comics, again dominates its category with three nominations. The inaugural volume of POLLY AND HER PALS COMPLETE SUNDAY COMICS received nods for both Best Archival Collection/Project-Strips and Best Publication Design. POLLY AND HER PALS COMPLETE SUNDAY COMICS, Volume 1 is edited by multiple award-winner Dean Mullaney and designed by Mullaney and Lorraine Turner.

Rounding out IDW’s twelve nominations is ARCHIE: THE COMPLETE DAILY NEWSPAPER STRIPS, 1946-1948. Recognized in the category of Best Archival Collection/Project – Strips, ARCHIE features the classic work of Bob Montana and the first editor credit for the company’s chief operating officer, Greg Goldstein.

“I’m glad our efforts at the Library of American Comics continue to be recognized,” said creative director Mullaney. “These are our ninth nominations in our first four years. I’m particularly proud that tribute this year is being paid to the incredible cartooning of Cliff Sterrett and Bob Montana.”
