Review: Infinity Wars #2

Continuing the action packed first issue and beginning to put together all of the things that’s been teased.

As the Infinity Stones come to Earth, so too comes the war for control over them. But none who wield the stones know the truth about the power they contain…or what it would take to bring them to their END. The nature of the universe itself hangs in the balance.

Infinity Wars #1 kicked things off with a bang revealing who Requiem is and having her begin to kick some butt. Writer Gerry Duggan keeps up the pace for Infinity Wars #2 which shows the chaos as everyone attempts to deal with what’s going on. Duggan keeps in mind, and really focuses the issue on the fact that there’s wielders of Infinity Stones. They use them in their own ways, some more effectively than others. It’s something that never really made sense in the past and here we see some movement in better use of the Stones. The issue too begins to bring things together that Marvel has teased that are part of the event. We’ve got upcoming amalgam characters and this issue is the first steps to that. It’s a lot of action and by end, you’re not quite sure what’s next for everyone beyond the teasers Marvel has released, and even then, not sure how they fit in from here.

Duggan is helped by Mike Deodato, Jr. whose art looks fantastic. There’s a lot of characters covered and each scene does every one of them justice. This is helped by the colors of Frank Martin. The two together knock it out of the park visually. As I said, there’s a lot covered here with so many characters and locations and it flows easily between them all. Nothing is out of place and the action is done in a way that makes you believe Requiem can do what she does.

The issue continues the action packed pace of the latter half of the first issue and sets up a lot of what’s been teased to come. It’s a solid issue full of action and twists and is paying off as a solid “Infinity” event.
