Detroit Steel and American Patriotism

This Wednesday sees the release of Iron Man #25 and a new villain in Detroit Steel.  In the story, Hammer Industries introduces the armored baddie as a private security product marketed to governments and corporations.  The high-tech armor is piloted by a former Air Force pilot.

According to Alejandro Arbona of Marvel Entertainment shared by email to the Detroit Free Press the name was chosen to:

“evoke traditions of industrial and technological innovation in this country and to appeal to the red-blooded, patriotic American corporations and military-industrial complex that would be their customer base.”
