Cryptozoic Will Offer Exclusive Collectibles, Trading Cards, and Games at WonderCon 2019

Cryptozoic Entertainment has announced that it will sell products in all categories and offer numerous exclusives at WonderCon Anaheim, March 29-31 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The annual show brings together exhibitors, retailers, and fans in a celebration of comic books, films, TV, and other forms of popular culture.

At Booth #1337, Cryptozoic will sell four exclusive vinyl figures from popular lines like DC Bombshells, Cryptkins, and DC Teekeez: Golden Goddess Classic Harley Quinn, Blackfire, Pestilence, and Flashpoint Batman. The company will also unveil its CZXTM super premium products for the first time anywhere with Promo Cards for two upcoming trading card sets—CZX Outlander and CZX Super Heroes & Super-Villains—and the soon-to-be-released CZX Wonder Woman: Princess of Wonder Woman Statue. In addition, Cryptozoic will offer exclusive Rick and Morty Trading Cards Season 2: Metallic Cards and a Promo Card for its upcoming Steven Universe Trading Cards set. Finally, attendees can preview two forthcoming games that use Cryptozoic’s new Gryphon card game engine: Challenge of the Superfriends Card Game and Rick and Morty: Looks Who’s Purging Now Card Game.

Cryptozoic’s exclusive figures will all be made available via online presales before WonderCon. Those who buy the figures that way will be able to pick them up at the booth. Everyone else at the show can purchase these collectibles while supplies last. The limited figures are:

Golden Goddess Classic Harley Quinn: This is a variant of the regular 7-inch vinyl figure that pays tribute to Harley’s origins by depicting her in her classic jester costume. Like the previous releases in Cryptozoic’s popular Golden Goddess series, it sports a stunning gold-and-white design inspired by classical Greek sculpture. The figure comes packaged in Cryptozoic’s signature window box, each of which is individually numbered from 1 to 250. It will sell for $40.

Golden Goddess Classic Harley Quinn

Blackfire (DC Lil Bombshells: Series 3): This is a variant of the Starfire vinyl figure from Cryptozoic’s retro-style DC Lil Bombshells: Series 3 line, which showcases DC’s favorite female characters (and a few male ones). This figure features a black hat, purple hair, pink eyes, and a dark costume to differentiate the evil Blackfire from her heroic sister, Starfire. Each figure is individually numbered (from 1 to 300) on the bottom and includes Blackfire’s logo on the base. The 2.75-inch collectible comes packaged in Cryptozoic’s signature, collectible tin with a foil sticker marking it as a “WonderCon exclusive.” Each figure will sell for $25.

Blackfire (DC Lil Bombshells: Series 3)

Pestilence (CryptkinsTM: Series 2): This is a variant of the Pegasus Cryptkins: Series 2 vinyl figure, part of Cryptozoic’s original IP featuring creatures that have long been the subject of folklore and tabloid headlines. This figure is the first from the Four Cryptkins of the Apocalypse variant series, which features characters that seem, at first glance, to be harbingers of doom. It sports green paint, spots, and other markings of disease. The 2.25-inch collectible comes packaged in a miniature crate with a foil sticker marking it as “Exclusive Species.” Only 300 figures exist, with each selling for $15.

Pestilence (CryptkinsTM: Series 2)

Flashpoint Batman (DC Teekeez): This is a variant of the Batman DC Teekeez vinyl figure, part of Cryptozoic’s collectibles line that is inspired by tiki culture and features iconic DC characters. This version of the figure is painted gray with red accents as a nod to the Batman in DC’s Flashpoint comic storyline, in which Thomas Wayne becomes the Caped Crusader instead of his son Bruce. The 2.625-inch collectible has a distinctive wood-carved aesthetic and comes packaged in Cryptozoic’s signature window box with a foil sticker marking it as a WonderCon exclusive. Like all DC Teekeez, it is stackable. Only 300 figures have been produced, with each selling for $15.

Flashpoint Batman (DC Teekeez)

In addition, Cryptozoic will sell exclusive cards from its latest Rick and Morty trading card set:

Rick and Morty Trading Cards Season 2: Metallic Cards: These cards are designed to look like business cards belonging to characters featured in Cryptozoic’s latest Rick and Morty trading card set. The three WonderCon-exclusive cards are Morty Smith (M7), the President of the United States (M8), and Unity (M9). Only 250 of each one were produced. Printed on high quality metal, each limited edition card retails for $10.

Fans can also collect Promo Cards for several upcoming products: the super premium CZX trading card sets CZX Outlander and CZX Super Heroes & Super-Villains (both P1), the high-end CZX Wonder Woman: Princess of Themyscira Statue (AW1), and Steven Universe Trading Cards (P5).

Finally, Cryptozoic will preview two new games that utilize its brand new Gryphon Engine and will be available in April:

Challenge of the Superfriends Card Game: Based on the classic TV series, this game uses Cryptozoic’s new Gryphon card game engine for fast-paced, easy-to-learn gameplay for 2-4 players. Taking on the roles of Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Batman and Robin, all players simultaneously reveal their Power Cards to call forth allies or Super Powers that can change the course of the battle against the Legion of Doom.

Challenge of the Superfriends Card Game

Rick and Morty: Look Who’s Purging Now Card Game: Based on the popular episode of the TV show, this game utilizes Cryptozoic’s new Gryphon card game engine to deliver gameplay that unfolds at lightning speed and is easy to learn. It features simultaneous play, as 2 to 4 players become Rick, Morty, and others and play their Weapon Cards at the same time to rack up kills during the annual Festival.

Submissions are Now Open for 2019 Prism Awards & Queer Press Grant

The Prism Awards are presented annually by The Cartoon Art Museum, Prism Comics, and The Queer Comics Expo to both fiction and non-fiction comics works by queer authors.  The goals of the Awards are to recognize and celebrate diversity and excellence in the field of queer comics and to promote powerful, innovative, positive, challenging stories and representations of LGBTQAI+ characters.

One award will be given in each of the following categories: Best Short Form Comic, Best Webcomic, Best Comic From A Small To Midsize Press, Best Comic From A Mainstream Publisher and Best Comic Anthology.  Finalists will also receive recognition.

Eligible work must have been made or first published between January 1 and December 31, 2018 and never before submitted to these Awards.  All submissions will be reviewed by an impartial panel of judges made up of professionals in the field of comics, including authors, scholars, reviewers and librarians.

THE SUBMISSION PERIOD FOR THE PRISM AWARDS CLOSES FEBRUARY 15, 2019 AT 11:59 PM PST.  Three Nominees in each category for the Prism Awards will be announced at the Queer Comics Expo in the San Francisco in April 2019 (dates to be announced).  Winners and Honorable Mention will be announced at Comic-Con International San Diego, Thursday, July 18 – Sunday, July 21, 2019 (date to be announced).

Additional information and guidelines for submission can be found here.

SUBMISSION ARE ALSO OPEN FOR THE 2019 PRISM COMICS QUEER PRESS GRANT.

The Grant is awarded annually to help emerging independent queer comic book creators publish and promote their comics.   Since its inception, the Queer Press Grant has fostered many important works representing excellence and diversity in LGBTQAI+ comics:

Comic books, comic strips, webcomics and graphic novel projects are all eligible. Entries are judged first and foremost by artistic merit and contributions to the LGBTQAI+ community, followed by evaluation of financial need and proposal presentation.

SUBMISSIONS FOR THE QUEER PRESS GRANT CLOSE AT 5 PM PST ON MARCH 1, 2019. Entries are judged first and foremost by artistic merit, followed by concerns such as financial need, proposal presentation, and the project’s contribution to the LGBT community. The judges also lean towards projects that are more fully realized — we want to see many pages of sequential art, rather than an idea with sketches. The Queer Press Grant is awarded to an amateur artist who hasn’t yet gotten a mainstream publisher.   They are reviewed by the Prism Board, past recipients of the Grant and Prism’s Advisory Board.

The Recipient of the Grant will be announced at one of Prism Comics’ panels at Wondercon Anaheim– March 29 – March 31, 2019 at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, California.
