The 2021 Toy of the Year Award Winners Are…

2021 Toy of the Year Awards

The winners of the 2021 Toy of the Year have been revealed by The Toy Association. The virtual event is the 21st year for the awards. Star Wars: The Mandalorian won big with numerous items taking home awards.

In a surprise announcement, two winners were chosen for the “People’s Choice” Award – both Story Time Chess (Story Time Chess), a classic game reimagined for the youngest of players, and The Original Spawn Action Figure and Comic Remastered (2020) (McFarlane Toys), which had its roots on Kickstarter, took home the honor.

TOTY awards were also handed out in 16 categories and given to the following:

  • Action Figure of the Year: Fisher-Price #ThankYouHeroes Line (Mattel)
  • Collectible of the Year: LEGO Super Mario Character Packs (LEGO)
  • Construction Toy of the Year: LEGO Star Wars The Razor Crest (LEGO)
  • Creative Toy of the Year: Crayola Colors of the World Crayons (Crayola LLC)
  • Doll of the Year: Barbie Color Reveal (Mattel)
  • Game of the Year: Pokémon Trading Card Game Battle Academy (The Pokémon Company International)
  • Infant/Toddler Toy of the Year: Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Grow-the-Fun Garden to Kitchen (Mattel)
  • Innovative Toy of the Year: Star Wars: The Child Animatronic Edition Toy (Hasbro)
  • License of the Year: Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Disney)
  • Outdoor Toy of the Year: Ultimate Go-Kart (Radio Flyer)
  • Playset of the Year: LEGO Super Mario Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle Expansion Set (LEGO)
  • Plush Toy of the Year: Star Wars: The Mandalorian The Child 11″ Plush (Mattel)
  • Preschool Toy of the Year: PAW Patrol Dino Patroller (Spin Master)
  • Specialty Toy of the Year: LEGO Ideas Grand Piano (LEGO)
  • STEAM Toy of the Year: Mega Cyborg Hand (Thames & Kosmos)
  • Vehicle of the Year: PLAYMOBIL Back To The Future DeLorean (PLAYMOBIL)

During the event, four toy industry visionaries were officially inducted into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame – Philip Bloom, founder & former publisher of The Bloom Report; William C. Killgallon, chairman of the board at The Ohio Art Company; Pleasant T. Rowland, founder of American Girl, a division of Mattel, Inc.; and the late Margarete Steiff, founder & creator of Steiff.

It’s Toy Fair Everywhere as The Toy Association Announces a Virtual Toy Market this Summer

The Toy Association has unveiled plans for Toy Fair Everywhere, a new series of virtual market weeks to help toy businesses connect with their customers, suppliers, and the global play community during these uncertain times when in-person meetings and events may not be possible.

Toy Fair Everywhere leverages the Association’s state-of-the-art technology platform and partners like Balluun, which had been unutilized, to swiftly respond to seller and buyer needs.

The event will take place over three weeks and the goal is to help meet some of the needs of the toy community. It’s not a replacement to the Toy Fairs in New York and Dallas but as a supplement.

Beginning July 13 through 19, The Toy Association will roll out the first of three virtual seven-day market weeks for 2020, connecting toy manufacturers to the global audience of toy buyers, media, and other key stakeholders ahead of the critical fourth-quarter selling season. Two additional Toy Fair Everywhere market weeks are planned for August 17 to 23 and September 14 to 20.

Just as if walking a show floor, virtual market week attendees will be able to explore a calendar of daily events, browse exhibitors by category, and book appointments for virtual demos and chats. Further replicating the in-person Toy Fair experiences online, Toy Fair Everywhere will also feature relevant and timely educational sessions and other engaging special events, both live and pre-recorded, that highlight the resiliency, drive, and passion of the global toy community.
