SDCC: Mockingjay: Part 2 shines with new teaser

Anyone who knows me knows this one fact about me: I am a huge fan and aficionado of the Hunger Games series, both the books and the movies. I have watched The Hunger Games – Mockingjay: Part 1 three times at the cinema and three times at home. On top of that, I have read all the books twice.

If you have forgotten the teaser trailer, here it is:

I was excited about this year’s Hunger Games event at SDCC, because last year it was a blast. (Sigh, I wish I could be there). These are the highlights of the panel:

This District 13 clip was showcased.

The music feels so epic and it looks phenomenal. The new, vividly red Mockingjay suit is gorgeous and it really stands out from the monotonous, grey-and-white background. Also, the first, full-length trailer for the film was screened, however, it is still not online yet.

Before introducing the trailer, director Francis Lawrence begged attendants not to post cellphone-recorded copies on the Internet and also promised a more active role for Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming film after many criticised Part 1 for lacking action and excitement.

“This is where Katniss gets into the action,” he told the fans, trying to win back their trust in the movies. “She was a bit sidelined in the last movie and going through her issues. This time she’s going after Snow and we get some real battle footage.”

The cast and crew took questions after the screening of the trailer. When asked about saying goodbye to her beloved character, Jennifer Lawrence said, “I don’t really feel like [the end] has happened yet. It’s such a huge part of my life. These movies changed my life. I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye. Katniss is a part of me.”

I don’t know why, but I feel there are more movies coming in the future. No, I am not talking about the remake that is bound to happen one day of the Hunger Games franchise, but some kind of a sequel or prequel. I doubt Lionsgate won’t try to milk the money cow for a bit longer. Now, whether, the producer, Nina Jacobson would allow it is something we will see.

At the end, responding to a fan question about what she took away from her experience, Lawrence opened up about the way it has shaped her life over the last couple of years.

“When I first signed onto these movies I was 20 and now I’m 24,” she explained. “I remember first feeling frustration about Katniss’s hesitation to be this hero. I remember reading it and wanting her to be excited to take this role… As I grew with her I realized how real and also powerful it was. Her hesitation to start this was because war doesn’t solve problems sometimes. And so, I can’t remember what your question was, but I remember thinking this could possibly answer it. So I hope that is in fact true.”
