Review: The Gingerdead Man #2

**WARNING THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SOME GRAPHIC AND INSENSITIVE MATERIAL. READERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED**

Hi my name is Gingerdead man wanna play? That’s what comes to mind when I started reviewing The Gingerdead Man comic by Action Lab: Danger Zone. I feel like it the Gingerbread man from Shrek and Chucky from child’s play had weird sexual relations and somehow spawned this evil, yet horny Gingerdead Man, thank god he was interrupted before he crumbed or frosted, whatever works for you! That vision in my mind would have scarred me for life and I have seen some pretty fucked up shit in my life.  Writer Brockton McKinney (Death Curse) is indeed one sick and twisted man. The first few pages alone sucked me in to see what kind of messed up stuff I was going to see, not that the naked ladies in the beginning of the comic had anything to do with it (shhhh our little secret).

The plot starts out with a couple of very naked ladies in what seems like a strip club, trying on what I assume are a couple of Halloween costumes when one decides to try and scare the other. Then out of know where this creature comes out and kills them, but have no alarm it was just a movie Billy (a young kid) was watching while his sister is talking to the Cops. She’s nervous, because she keeps hearing noises and screams coming form an empty building near where they live and where Billy’s sister works. So a couple of Police Officers go to do a check of the scene.

In the meantime, the comic cuts to the Gingerdead man fornicating with a sugary candy woman I presume he created for the sole purpose of popping his button and frosting all over her? Anyways, he is soon discovered by the police and in the process of chasing him one officer is killed by a hot substance and the other is forced to eat the Gingerdead Man’s arm and unknowing to the Gingerbread Man the officer turns evil.

Meanwhile, Billy is bored and is giving his sister a hard time. She won’t allow him to go outside until the officers tell them the coast is clear to keep her brother safe, which is noble. But the cops have been gone a while and a nice customer of hers offered to check in the officers for her, but she declines. Meanwhile a gang is seen walking into where the Gingerdead Man is and it looks like the gang and the Gingerdead Man have teamed up to make some “Cookies” that seem to be selling which must have some kind of drugs in them. When they walk in the gang gets the surprise of a lifetime.

This was the first mature comic I have ever read It was unique and I kind of want to follow the rest of the series to see how the plot unfolds. The story flowed and made complete sense and nothing seemed out of place. Brockton surely has a twisted sense of humor and its definitely showed in this series thus far. The artwork by Sergio Rios was good, it was not overly detailed, but also didn’t look like an amateur did it either. It was subtle and colored nicely.

This series is definitely not for everyone, especially kids and those who get offended easily. Overall I was pleased with this issue. It was fun and different and I think that is what really drew me in. Don’t get me wrong, I love the regular comics I am familiar with, but sometimes it is nice to switch it up sometimes. I would suggest that it be read, but it’s also not a comic that you absolutely have to put at the top of your reading list, but if you are looking for something different, this series is for you.
