The Year of Spawn Continues with the Superhero Team Book: The Scorched!

The Scorched, Todd McFarlane‘s highly anticipated first ever superhero team book, is next on deck in the Year of Spawn. It follows his three record-breaking new comic title releases in 2021. McFarlane’s chosen creative team for The Scorched series is the top creative team with writer Sean Lewis and artists Stephen Segovia and Paulo Sequeria. The Scorched #1 is the first all-new issue of McFarlane’s Superhero team book. After 30 years of the regular monthly Spawn book, The Scorched gathers the best characters for three decades and puts them together into one title. The first issue’s initial characters in The Scorched #1 will include Reaper, Spawn, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Medieval Spawn, She-Spawn, and many more waiting in the wings.

The stunning covers for The Scorched #1 are created by superstar artists Ryan Stegman, Puppeteer Lee, Brett Booth, Greg Capullo, Don Aguillo, fellow Image founder Marc Silvestri, and McFarlane. Booth’s cover of The Scorched #1 interconnects with King Spawn #1 and Gunslinger Spawn #1 to form one epic work of art.

The Scorched #1 will include forty-eight pages of full-color with a premium 8 pt. cover stock showcasing the top talents in the industry for this inaugural launch.

The Scorched #1 will have a 1:250 copy incentive cover which McFarlane will hand-sign and create a unique sequential number for each issue (based on the Final Order Cutoff total). Each signed copy of The Scorched #1 1:250 includes a CGC Certificate of Authenticity that retailers can send in and redeem through CGC to have their books graded. This is the only time McFarlane will sign The Scorched #1 1:250 copy incentive cover.

Additionally, The Scorched #1 will have a 1:50 copy incentive variant cover by Capullo.

For every 250 copies of The Scorched #1 issues ordered, retailers will become eligible to order five incentive covers of The Scorched #1 by Capullo and one The Scorched #1 McFarlane incentive cover.

The Year of Spawn continues with Todd McFarlane’s newest book, The Scorched #1. This new book comes hot off the heels of three record-breaking books, Spawn’s Universe #1, King Spawn #1 and Gunslinger Spawn #1, which were the biggest selling Image Comics books in the 21st century. 

The Scorched #1 is the first all-new issue of McFarlane’s Superhero team book. McFarlane has also recruited some of the top talent in the industry for this inaugural launch.

King Spawn #1 Gets a Todd McFarlane 1:250 Cover

The highly anticipated August launch of King Spawn #1 will have two exciting retailer incentive covers. There will be a Todd McFarlane’s King Spawn #1 1:250 retailer incentive that will be the lowest print run ever released by Todd McFarlane Productions. Additionally, each book will be hand-signed by legendary Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and each book will have its own unique number on it. This is the only time McFarlane will sign the King Spawn #1 McFarlane retailer incentive issue.  This incentive cover is exclusively offered to retailers that order 250 copies of King Spawn #1.

Additionally, a Greg Capullo, black and white, King Spawn #1 retailer incentive cover will be offered to retailers that order 50 copies of King Spawn #1; they will receive the Capullo retailer incentive cover. For every 250 King Spawn #1 issues ordered, retailers will receive five King Spawn #1 Capullo retailer incentive covers and one King Spawn #1 McFarlane retailer incentive cover. Both King Spawn #1 retailer incentive covers are available only to comic book shops who order enough King Spawn #1 copies to receive them by the Final Order Cutoff date, Monday, August 2.

McFarlane also has revealed an art collaboration with Eisner Award-nominated writer Donny Cates. Cates is a featured cover artist on King Spawn #1.

The superstar creative team for this title includes writers Sean Lewis and McFarlane, and artists Javier Fernandez, Brett Booth, Philip Tan, Stephen Segovia, Marcio Takara, and McFarlane. Along with cover artists Greg Capullo, Sean Gordon Murphy, Puppeteer Lee, David Finch, Donny Cates, Booth, and McFarlane.

The release of King Spawn #1 is nearly three decades in the making and marks the first time a #1 Spawn issue has been available, in monthly form, in over 28 years. Issue #1 is a massive 56 pages thick with stunning art and action-packed storytelling.  

The King Spawn #1 continues the dramatic events from the recent blockbuster Spawn’s Universe #1 comic book. King Spawn is expected to have even bigger sales than the record-setting Spawn’s Universe #1. 

King Spawn #1 McFarlane signature and unique numbering will vary in placement on the actual books from the example revealed. The exact print run number will be available after FOC on Monday, August 2.

King Spawn #1 will be available at  comic book shops  and digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play on Wednesday, August 25.  SRP $5.99.

King Spawn is Coming this August

Todd McFarlane will unleash an all-new comic book series—King Spawn—this August. This new title will continue the dramatic events from recent blockbuster Spawn’s Universe #1 and is nearly three decades in the making. King Spawn #1 marks the first time an ongoing, monthly Spawn series has been launched in over 28 years and joins an elite group of famed heroes—like Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman—with more than one monthly title devoted to the same character. King Spawn is projected to have even higher sales than the record-setting Spawn’s Universe #1.

To that point, one of the all-time classic fan-favorite villains from the original series makes his long-awaited return in the initial storyline of this new title.

An all-star creative team will help launch this series, including writers Sean Lewis, Todd McFarlane, and artists Javier Fernandez, Brett Booth, Philip Tan, Stephen Segovia, Todd McFarlane, and Marcio Takara. The end of “The One Who Fell”! Superman and Superboy were duped by the old divide-and-conquer routine, which is especially dangerous on a faraway planet where you can’t tell who your enemy is. As the Shadowbreed makes their big move, Superman discovers what happened to the friend who originally sent the distress beacon that lured him and his son across the galaxy. Let’s just hope it’s not an answer that came too late! Elsewhere, back home on Earth, Jimmy Olsen leads his misfit team on the hunt for the sinister Projectress.

“The One Who Fell” part two! Thought to have been defeated long ago by Superman and his allies, the ancient Shadowbreed have returned in a horrifying new form, and Superman’s oldest ally has been assimilated into their ranks. As Jon and the besieged new Thakkramite leader search for the key that will help them defeat the creatures, Superman returns to the site of his first historic victory over the Shadowbreed in an attempt to warn the Thakkramites of the incoming threat. But Superman’s old allies kept terrible secrets from him, and both he and Jon are more vulnerable against the Shadowbreed than they know. And in the backup story, Jimmy Olsen’s plan to build a backup squad to help out his pal Superman looks like it’s already falling apart when two of its members, Loose Cannon and Gangbuster, would rather fight than be friends.

Superman has received a signal from distant space. An old friend is in deep trouble, and only the Man of Steel can help him. By the time Superman and his son get there, though, the alien who sent the signal is nowhere to be found, and his people appear to be enthralled by a shamanistic storyteller who warns of an ancient grudge with the malevolent Shadowbreed. This leaves Clark and Jonathan Kent to ponder just who sent them the distress message, but before they can find the answer, they’ll discover that an ancient grudge still has very current consequences. Kicking off a new story line, this issue pairs Phillip Kennedy Johnson with his Future State: Superman: House of El collaborator, artist Scott Godlewski! Meanwhile, in the “Tales of Metropolis” backup story it’s…the return of Ambush Bug? Say it ain’t so!
