Paul Cornell Returns to Doctor Who for a Twist on the Third Doctor

BBC Worldwide North America and Titan Comics are excited to announce the return of the Third Doctor this August, in comics! This brand-new five-part comic series, written by fan-favorite Doctor Who scribe Paul Cornell, stars the Third Doctor, as played by Jon Pertwee, alongside companions Jo Grant (Katy Manning) and the Brigadier (Nicholas Courtney) in classic Doctor Who action.

Hitting stores and digital platforms on August 31st, Doctor Who: The Third Doctor expands Titan Comics’ hugely popular and critically acclaimed Doctor Who comics, which already include adventures from the Fourth, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors.

Fresh off last year’s epic smash-hit, Four Doctors, Paul Cornell teams up with artist Christopher Joneswith inks by Rodney Ramos and colors by Rodrigo Fernandes to bring unexpected twists and turns to the lives of the Third Doctor and his companions in an all-new story, “The Heralds Of Destruction.”

Actor Jon Pertwee starred as the Third Doctor in 128 episodes from 1970 to 1974. Pertwee’s portrayal of the Doctor was a suave, dapper, and technologically oriented man of action, who spent his time stranded on Earth, working with the international military group UNIT.

When something enormous and extraterrestrial crashes into Bedfordshire, the Doctor, Jo Grant, and the forces of UNIT under Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart mobilize immediately to investigate – and find themselves in the middle of a pitched battle against a terrifying invader! But the shocking face that awaits their return to base may tip their whole world off its axis.

The debut issue comes with five variant covers to collect: three art covers by artists Josh Burns, Simon Myers, and Paul McCaffrey, a photo cover, and a blank sketch cover.

Retailers can order issue #1 of Doctor Who: The Third Doctor from the June edition of Diamond PREVIEWS. This all-new storyline in the world of an old classic will delight longtime fans and freshly converted Whovians alike.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Tackles Mycroft Holmes in a New Comic Series from Titan Comics

This August, Titan Comics is teaming with NBA All-star and Polymath legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for Mycroft Holmes and the Apocalypse Handbook: a brand new standalone comic book adventure that uncovers the secrets of the elder Holmes brother.

An all-new adventure, The Apocalypse Handbook sees the diffident, brilliant Mycroft pulled into a globe-spanning adventure at the behest of Queen Victoria and a secret organization at the heart of the British government. A madman is on the loose with futuristic weaponry capable of destroying civilization in the most horrific manner. Can the smartest man in England set aside his idle, womanizing ways for long enough to track down the foe that may be his match?

Although the character appeared in only a handful of Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, Sherlock’s elder brother Mycroft has gained increased mainstream awareness through appearances in smash-hit TV show Sherlock and CBS’s Elementary (as portrayed by Mark Gatiss and Rhys Ifans respectively). Charting his own course and centering Mycroft firmly at the heart of the narrative, Abdul-Jabbar’s devotion for the character was established in the novel Mycroft Holmes, for Titan Books last year.

This exciting comic series sees Abdul-Jabbar team with best-selling novelist Raymond Obstfeld to pen a fresh, all-new story that adds new revelations and insights into the life of Mycroft. The five-part serial features art by rising star Joshua Cassara and colorist Luis Guerrero, along with a host of comics luminaries on its variant covers.

The hotly anticipated debut arrives in comic stores and on digital platforms on August 3, 2016.

Check out the covers below, Cover A: Joshua Cassara and Luis Guerrero; Cover B: Rod Reis; Cover C: Typographic Variant; and Cover D: Paul McCaffrey.
