Meet Dejah Thoris – Thousands of Years Before John Carter!

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a bold all-new vision of the Princess of Mars coming this March! Writer Chuck Brown returns to chronicle an untold chapter set before the events of the first classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

A young princess Dejah has lived a sheltered existence so far, growing up safe behind vast and thick palace walls and guarded by the greatest warriors in the land. That is, until one fateful day that changes the course of her life forever. The entire royal family is attacked by the horrific Kaldane Martians one day. The princess narrowly escapes, but now finds herself in the harsh wilds of Barsoom. She will have no recourse but to strike out on a quest to find her way back and save her kingdom.

Set a few thousand years before Dejah meets the fabled John Carter, fans will get to see her grow and discover herself beyond being a pampered princess. Alongside allies like her former Helium servant and close friend Roo, and a young Green Martian named Hudd, Dejah will hone her skills and become a warrior and champion of her people as well. She will learn more about the diverse peoples and creatures of her world, shedding her preconceived notions that her sheltered education instilled in her. Oh, and watch out for the kangaroo men and man-eating Calot trees too!

Eisner nominated writer Chuck Brown returns to the world of Barsoom, following his series John Carter Of Mars – which is solicited as a graphic novel alongside this new series. He’s joined by stellar artist Emiliana Pinna, colorist Ellie Wright and letterer Jeff Eckleberry.

In addition to Pinna and the rest of the creative team, a who’s who of top talents continue that artistic legacy with the variant covers available on this new series. Lesley “Leirix” Li leads the way, alongside Joseph Michael Linsner, Junggeun Yoon, Rebeca Puebla, Joshua “Sway” Swaby. Cosplayer Rachel Hollon also contributes a cover portraying the character. Young rising artist Jade Hope, daughter of YouTuber Gem Mint Collectibles, also makes her major direct market debut on the first issue!

Dejah Thoris #1 is slated for release in March 2023.
