Werewolf by Moon Knight this October

Marc Spector is currently baring his very soul as he tackles his most hard-hitting missions to date in writer Jed MacKay’s current run on Moon Knight. With new villains and fresh takes on the Moon Knight mythology, the title has been a hit with fans, and this October, readers will be treated to even more revolutionary Moon Knight action in the run’s first annual. A double-sized spectacular, Moon Knight Annual #1 will feature art by Federico Sabbatini, the artist behind select issues of Moon Knight as well as the recent Devil’s Reign: Moon Knight one-shot. But to fulfill that prophecy requires the blood of the Fist of Khonshu, and Moon Knight doesn’t bleed easily.

It’s a “Month of Mayhem” from Archie Horror this Fall

Archie Comics is taking over Spooky Season with four all-new horror comics launching in October, also known as Archie Horror’s Month of Mayhem! Headlined by a sequel to last year’s Chilling Adventures in Sorcery, the rest of the lineup includes campfire tales for kids, an ’80s-tinted solo adventure for Sabrina’s cat Salem, and a Twilight Zone-esque flight into the sci-fi side of horror.

Leading the initiative in late September, Chilling Adventures Presents… Weirder Mysteries is a trio of dark sci-fi tales kicked off by writer Frank Tieri in a welcome return to the universe of his previous hit Archie Horror series, with art by Federico Sabbatini.

The issue is rounded out with two stories written by Joanne Starer and Ron Robbins with art by Juan Bobillo and Ryan Jampolefeaturing rare appearances by Bingo Wilkin, star of the ’70s comic series That Wilkin Boy, and Alexandra Cabot, a foil for Josie and the Pussycats.

Archie Comics’ beloved teenage witch Sabrina Spellman is no stranger to Archie Horror, having headlined her own comic, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, that spawned a Netflix streaming series. Like any good witch, Sabrina has a magical feline familiar named Salem, and now, horror-loving cat fanciers will have something to celebrate on October 12 when he stars in his first solo title, Chilling Adventures of Salem! Written by comics horror master Cullen Bunn with evocative nostalgic “horror paperback” art by Dan Schoeningthe one-shot follows Salem as he helps neighborhood animals exact revenge on those who’ve caused them harm.

Review: Devil’s Reign: Moon Knight #1

Devil's Reign: Moon Knight #1

When I was in the military we ran combat scenarios where  we are trained for every possibility. There are times when those scenarios actually play out in real life. We rarely think that what we trained for we would actually use. That is usually the beauty of muscle memory when we actually get to the situation, it all kicks in.

One of those scenarios that we train for is what happens when someone gets you in a “killbox”. That’s the military definition of having your backs against the wall. When you’re surrounded by enemies survival is truly minute to minute. In Devil’s Reign: Moon Knight, we find our titular character jailed by villains and surrounded mostly by the men he put in jail.

Kingpin is Mayor and he has been jailing masked vigilantes which now includes Moon Knight, and is imprisoned in the Myrmidon, the private prison for super criminals. As he begins his tenure, he surveys the jail to see who really is in charge and who is an immediate threat, as he first looks for a fight right away. Eventually, he gets into the illegal jail fights organized by the guards, facing  new and old foes, eviscerating each of them effortlessly. As he fights his way to the top competitor, who gives him his toughest match. By the issue’s end, we see that it was Marc’s plan all along, as he was there to right a wrong.

Overall, Devil’s Reign: Moon Knight #1 is an action packed issue that shows why Marc Spector is so terrifying. The story by MacKay is astounding. The art by the creative team is amazing. Altogether, this book will get fans excited for his Disney+ debut.
