Dungeon Masters Guild Opens as a Marketplace for D&D Creations

Dungeon Masters Guild 2Wizards of the Coast is shaking Dungeons & Dragons up again with the announced of the Dungeon Masters Guild. Part of the endurance of the classic roleplaying game is the ability of players to create their own adventures, characters, rules, creatures, and more. However, there’s been a lack of a convenient outlet to share them with gamers beyond your circle. You either had to raise money to publish a physical book or zine on your own, or convince a publisher you had the chops. Now, the Dungeon Masters Guild puts the power to share that creativity firmly in the hands of the DM.

The Dungeon Masters Guild is a collaboration between Dungeons & Dragons and DriveThruRPG, and it is designed to support and reward folks – whether you’re an experienced DM or just starting out. Today, you can upload your creations to the DMs Guild website, as well as browse submissions from some of gaming’s most esteemed designers.

For the first time ever, you’ll be able to self-publish material set in the Forgotten Realms using monsters, spells, characters, and locations previously unavailable. Set your side trek in Neverwinter or Baldur’s Gate, have your characters go toe-to-toe with the Xanathar, the beholder crime lord of Waterdeep, or fall in with some traitorous drow in Menzoberranzan. With some exceptions noted on the DMs Guild website, the Forgotten Realms is at your fingertips.

You can set whatever price you like for your creation; you can give your new monster away for free or charge a few gold coins. If you do decide to ask for money, you’ll get half of the revenue while DriveThruRPG and Dungeons & Dragons will split the other.

Creators can upload whatever kind of Forgotten Realms material they’d like to the Dungeon Masters Guild, but we’ll be featuring side treks, monsters, and backgrounds on the site. For now, the Guild is only accepting Forgotten Realms material that uses the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons rules. For everything else, Wizards of the Coast has updated the Open Gaming License so that publishers can continue releasing their own material.

Wizards of the Coast LogoTabletop Appreciation Weekend begins today! Wizards of the Coast team members (+ friends and family) will begin a 48-hour D&D tabletop roleplaying game in support of the Extra Life charity’s inaugural weekend to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

  • The Dungeons & Dragons game will be broadcasted today starting at 12pm PST on the D&D Twitch Channel and will conclude at 8pm PST on Sunday, October 4. As the team raises more money, players will unlock previews of the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide. Track the team’s progress at D&D Extra Life team page.
  • The Magic: The Gathering game will be broadcasted on the Magic Twitch Channel beginning tomorrow and will conclude on Sunday morning.

In addition, the team will return on Extra Life Game Day on November 7 for even more D&D fun, streaming digital games like Sword Coast Legends and Neverwinter.

Help Support a Good Cause

The money raised through Extra Life goes directly to Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, helping to fund research and training, purchase life-saving equipment, and pay for uncompensated care. CMN hospitals treat every patient that comes through their doors, regardless of the family’s ability to pay. The goal is to help save and improve the lives of as many children as possible, and the funds raised will make it possible for the hospitals to do that!

Players can join the D&D team or the Magic team or set-up their own playgroup at home. Players, DMs, and Planeswalkers around the country are encouraged to join either team and contribute to the overall team totals.

Whether you love the classic tabletop games or prefer to take your adventure digital, you can play D&D and contribute to the cause! Try out the new Sword Coast Legends or any of the other D&D video games, such as Neverwinter or classics like Baldur’s Gate. You can also show your support for the D&D team by adding the D&D Twibbon to your Twitter or Facebook profile.

Magic players have many options as well! Whether you’re playing paper Magic: The Gathering, Magic Online, or the recently released (and free) Magic Duels: Origins, all the donations you generate will count towards the Magic team goal!

Earn Rewards

All participating members of the D&D Extra Life team who raise at least $50 and respond to a survey after the event will receive a promotional certificate for use in D&D Adventurers League play. Additionally, every hour Wizards of the Coast will be giving away different prizes to donors, so participating members should stay tuned throughout the program to see what’s available. Finally, until October 5, anyone can purchase the exclusive D&D Extra Life Rage of Demons shirt.

Tune in and play along!
