Michael Avon Oeming Delivers Dick Tracy Forever

IDW Publishing has announced the perfect pairing of acclaimed writer/artist Michael Avon Oeming and pop culture’s enduring icon of law and order in Dick Tracy Forever, a four-issue miniseries debuting in April.

In the Forever series, Dick Tracy is the proverbial Sisyphus, pushing the law boulder up the hill as he struggles for reason and order in a world with none. His attempts at delivering justice are met with crime and chaos in the form of unpredictable and absurd villains. But Dick Tracy will never give up trying, no matter the era or incarnation… even when his startling new case defies all notions of time and space!

Oeming will be joined on the Dick Tracy Forever series by colorist Taki Soma. For the debut issue, Oeming will provide the main cover and a noir-inspired spot color variant, with renowned illustrator Kyle Bakercontributing a special incentive cover variant, as well.

Square-Jawed Justice Returns to Comics in Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive

One of the most iconic comic-strip heroes of all time is back in action, courtesy of IDW Publishing’s new series, Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive! Reimagined for the 21st century through a retro lens by the superstar team of Michael AllredLee AllredRich Tommaso, and Laura Allred, the four-issue miniseries launches in September… so criminals had best beware!

In Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive, the All-American detective just made the biggest collar of his career… and it only cost him his job. Now, the honest cop has packed his bags for “the city by the lake,” and its criminal community is firmly in his sights! Featuring cover art and co-written by Eisner Award-winning superstar Michael Allred, the new series features strange villains, crooked cops, and gunfights galore.

Since 1931, Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy has thrilled millions with tales of good guys versus bad guys, while showcasing the latest criminology techniques and old-fashioned values. Throughout the years, the quintessential detective had numerous partners and sent thousands of rogues either to the slammer or their graves, but there were always more bizarre, out-of-this-world villains (with funny names and hideous faces) to pursue.

Dick Tracy Not Coming to Archie Due to Licensor “Mistake”

Archie Comics‘ Co-President/Editor/Writer/PR person Alex Segura went to Twitter earlier today to say that there will not be a Dick Tracy. A “mistake on the licensor’s part” is the cause. Tribune Content Agency discovered a “preexisting licensing deal that precludes” this project. The series was announced in early December.

Co-written by Segura and Michael Moreci, it would have featured art by Thomas Pitilli, colors by Dee Cunniffen, and lettering from Jack Morelli. The first issue also featured variant covers by Francesco Francavilla, Kyle Baker, Cat Staggs, and Michael Walsh. The comic series was to kick off in April 11, 2018.

Its focus was on the earlier years of the detective, “square one,” with a blend of the classic Dick Tracy and a “modern and dark noir feel.”

Archie Reveals Dick Tracy’s Early Days Starting April 2018

Buckle up for a high-stakes crime adventure as co-writers Alex Segura and Michael Moreci along with artist Thomas Pitilli, colorist Dee Cunniffen and letterer Jack Morelli bring Dick Tracy back to comic books in April 2018! The first issue features variant covers by Francesco Francavilla, Kyle Baker, Cat Staggs, and Michael Walsh.

The earliest investigations of one of pop culture’s most iconic detectives will be explored in the new ongoing series that promises to blend the classic Dick Tracy style that readers know and love with a modern and dark noir feel.

The first arc goes back to square one and explores the early days of Dick Tracy’s time in The City, soon after the second World War.

Dick Tracy’s new adventures begin April 11, 2018 when the world famous detective investigates a deadly shooting that bears the fingerprints of a menacing killer known only as Flattop. Are you ready to join Dick Tracy on his newest case?
