Young Justice Season 4 Gets a New Title

Young Justice: Phantoms

Young Justice fans who couldn’t wait for season four were more than just “whelmed” at DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse on Saturday, September 12, by not only the show’s panel with the cast and producers, but also a special table read of a brand-new Young Justice episode performed by the series voice cast — and the reveal of the title to the new season.

During the Young Justice panel, executive producers Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti exclusively confirmed the official title for the highly anticipated fourth season as Young Justice: Phantoms. Prior to this announcement, select members of the voice cast — including Jason Spisak, Khary Payton, Stephanie Lemelin, Nolan North, Denise Boutte, Danica McKellar and Crispin Freeman — teamed up for a virtual table read of a special original episode titled Young Justice: FanDome. Season 3.9. Episode 1. “The Prize.” Written by Weisman, the script provided an early glimpse into the new season by setting up events that eventually play out further in Young Justice: Phantoms.

Based on characters from DC, Young Justice: Phantoms is executive produced by Weisman and Vietti along with Sam Register (Teen Titans GO!). Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the first three seasons of Young Justice are available on DC UNIVERSE.

Pennyworth Season 2 Features a Pregnant Martha Kane

In the upcoming second season of Pennyworth, the DC drama series that follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon) in 1960s London where he works with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), it will be discovered that Martha Kane (Emma Paetz) is…pregnant!

During the Pennyworth panel at DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse on Saturday, September 12, executive producer Bruno Heller shared the happy unexpected news with the parents-to-be-by-acting-proxy Emma Paetz and Ben Aldridge. (It was previously revealed during the DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes event on August 22 that DC character Lucius Fox would be joining the series in season two.)

In addition to Bannon, Aldridge, and Paetz, Pennyworth season two features the return of stars Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson and Polly Walker, with multi-award-winning recording artist Paloma Faith and Jason Flemyng. Earlier this year, it was announced that James Purefoy (The Following, Sex Education, Altered Carbon), Edward Hogg (Taboo, Harlots, White Lightning), Jessye Romeo (Curfew, In the Long Run), Ramon Tikaram (Brassic, The Victim) and Harriet Slater (Faunutland and the Lost Magic) would be joining the cast as series regulars.

Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, Pennyworth was developed by Bruno Heller, who executive produces with Danny Cannon and Matthew Patnick. The series airs on EPIX in the U.S.

Lisseth Chavez Joins DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz

Lisseth Chavez

While DC’s Legends of Tomorrow landed the Waverider over the weekend for a fun cast and producer panel session at DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse, exciting news was evolving in the show’s own off-the-wall timeline with the addition of a new series regular joining the cast for the upcoming sixth season. Lisseth Chavez (Chicago P.D.) has just been cast in the role of Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz.

Previously known for her role as Officer Vanessa Rojas on the NBC drama Chicago, P.D., Chavez has recurred on many hit television shows including Murder in the First, The Fosters, and The OA.

Tough and self-sufficient, Spooner Cruz lives off the grid, devising ingenious tech for the detection of — and defense against — space aliens. And while some might call her paranoid, she calls it being prepared. A survivor of a childhood alien encounter, Spooner now believes she has the ability to communicate telepathically with aliens — making her the perfect recruit for Waverider captains Sara Lance, Ava Sharpe and the Legends who, in season six, will be hunting down extraterrestrials who have been displaced throughout history.

Having spent last season tracking down the Loom of Fate in order to bring back their slain comrades, the Legends must now save history from a foe like none they have ever encountered in the past or future…space aliens! After Sara is abducted by a ruthless alien, this new mission becomes personal. It will take more than the combined powers of the Legends to save the world for a sixth time. They must recruit a new Legend: Spooner Cruz, a woman uniquely qualified to help the team defeat their intergalactic foes. Either that or she’s just crazy…

During the show’s Saturday panel session, series stars Caity Lotz, Nick Zano, Matt Ryan, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Olivia Swann, Amy Louise Pemberton and Shayan Sobhian joined executive producers Phil Klemmer, Keto Shimizu and Grainne Godfree to discuss their favorite moments from past seasons and give the inside scoop on what’s in store for season six.

Produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is based on the characters from DC and returns for its sixth season in 2021 on The CW.

Doom Patrol is Back for Season 3 on HBO Max

It shouldn’t be too surprising by Doom Patrol has been greenlit for a third season. The third season of the series will be “exclusively” on HBO Max where the first two seasons are available to stream now.

In season two of Doom Patrol, DC’s strangest group of heroes — including Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — attempted, once again, to save the world. Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the heroes found themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. They began to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. As each member faced the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they realized they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.

Doom Patrol is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Jeremy Carver, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Chris Dingess and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. The series is based on characters created for DC by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani.

DC FanDome Generates 22 million global views from 220 countries and territories

DC FanDome

2020 has forced businesses to innovate and think outside the box. With conventions on hold, publishers and studios have had to switch up their marketing plans leading to some to make their own destiny with virtual events. DC and Warner Bros. did just that with DC FanDome, a worldwide event that saw its first part take place on August 22. The event featured comics, video games, film, television, and more, celebrating how DC’s iconic characters have spread beyond the printed page.

DC and Warner Bros. have released some interesting stats regarding their first virtual celebration indicating they see it as a success and something to cheer about. You don’t release these types of stats unless you do:

  • The epic DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes event generated a massive 22 million global views across 220 countries and territories in a mere 24 hours, dominating YouTube and Twitter trends.
  • 150 million views of trailer content launched from the event.
  • The eagerly awaited event — and its fan-favorite films, TV series, games, and comics — were top trending topics in 82 markets on YouTube and 53 markets on Twitter.

The event created massive buzz and showed you can do big reveals with a splash virtually. Wonder Woman 1984 released a new trailer, we got our first looks at The Suicide Squad and The Batman, two new video games were announced, Milestone was given a return date, and so much more generated chatter that has lasted for days.

With this success, the question is out there, do studios need big conventions going forward?

With DC FanDome’s success, one has to wonder exactly that. While they haven’t released metrics, that I’ve seen, Comic-Con@Home’s, San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual event, videos generated a few million views at most for far more videos. However, that event lacked major announcements such as those that were held for DC’s own event.

DC FanDome represents a shift in marketing for comic publishers, movie and television studios, and game publishers. It’s an even that many will go back and point to as a shift in the industry.

All eyes are now upon the second part of DC FanDome which features to different experiences, one for adults and one for kids.

DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse, a 24-hour, on-demand experience accessed via DCFanDome.com, will be unleashed on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 am PDT, with nearly 100 hours of content available for fans to watch on-demand, on their own schedule,
for 24 hours.

DC Kids FanDome also launches on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 am PDT, with its own kid-friendly companion site at DCKidsFanDome.com, accessible on-demand for 24 hours.

Get a First Look at The Batman

As expected, DC Fandome delivered a first look at the highly anticipated The Batman from director Matt Reeves and actor Robert Pattinson. The film also stars Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon.

In the segment, Reeves says the film takes place in “year two” and Batman is trying to figure out how to impact Gotham as the murder count increases and the corruption of the city becomes clearer. While the film isn’t the origin of Batman, it does touch upon his coming into the role as well as the origins of some of Gotham’s villains. Is that the Joker Gang we see?

Also revealed is the Gotham television series will be more of a “year one” as Batman emerges. It’ll explore new areas and more of Gotham along with new characters.
