Joker Gets an Award Win Bump

Joker

Joker looks like it got a Golden Globe post-award win bump that will likely continue now that it leads the 92nd Oscar nominations.

Over the past week, the film earned $550,000 domestically which is a massive increase from the $41,000 it earned over the past two weeks. The film’s total now stands at $334 million.

Internationally, the film added $3.2 million over the week besting the $2.2 million it earned over the two weeks prior.

The movie’s $1.067 billion is an amazing haul for a movie whose budget was just $55 million. It caps off a record-setting year for films based on comics.

The movie is currently ranked #11 in worldwide total for a comic adaptation. It’s about $14.3 million from passing The Dark Knight Rises and will crack the top ten at that point. It’s unlikely to do so but you never know.

When it comes to DC films, it’s a most interesting one. The film is marching along and it’s possible it will pass Aquaman‘s domestic total by the time its domestic run is over:

Joker Cracks the Top 15. Far From Home Keeps Swinging

Joker

Joker came in second place at the weekend box office adding an estimated $13.9 million to its domestic total a 27.7% drop from the previous weekend.

Over the week, the film earned nearly $22 million domestically and $63 million at the international box office.

The film has earned $299.6 million in total domestically. The movie has also earned $634.4 million at the international box office bringing its worldwide total to $934 million making the elusive $1 billion box office within reach. With just a $55 million budget, the film is one of the most profitable of the year.

The film is now ranked #13 in worldwide grosses for a film based on a comic property. It needs to cross the billion-dollar mark to move higher in the rankings.

Joker is also the second highest-grossing DC Universe film of the modern era (post-Man of Steel) worldwide. The movie’s success really comes from the international box-office where it has succeeded while most DC films stumble, Aquaman being the exception. It’s the second highest-grossing film at the international box office for a DC film. It’s the fifth highest-grossing film domestically, but will likely move into fifth by the time its domestic run is over.

Over the past week, Spider-Man: Far From Home earned an estimated $43,000 internationally. The movie’s domestic total now stands at $390.5 million domestically and $741.3 million internationally. Worldwide, the film has earned $1.132 billion.
