Review: Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1

As a huge fan of Star Wars, I never could get enough of the literary canon. The books that encapsulated this world in the years between the original trilogy and Lucas’s second trilogy are some of the best. The books looked to fill those plot holes which fans always wondered about. For the longest time, fans had given up hope on any new movies.

This is exactly why the books filled that crucial void that fans felt. It brought us back to that universe and reminded us of the stakes our heroes had. It is within those books, an auteur like Timothy Zahn gave fans a heartfelt love letter within his sprawling novels. I do enjoy the new ones, but it exists within a world where opportunities to consume Star Wars are numerous. That still includes books but also now podcasts, TV shows, and movies. In IDW Publishing‘s Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1 we find some of those same ghosts within these stories.

We are taken to the Trymant System, where a group of young Padawans, under the guidance of Yoda, are on a mission to Bralanak City, to save the people from hyperspace disaster fallout, and where a young Jedi, Lula Talisola, will soon become his brightest. Meanwhile in Bralanak City, we meet Zeen Mralan inhabitant who had been thought their whole lives to beware of the Force. Yoda deploys the Padawans on speeders to save any civilians they can, which leads to a skirmish with some pirates looking to loot the planet. By issue’s end, a secret comes out , which only draws opposition.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1 is an exciting debut issue that stokes the nostalgia from the first six movies of the franchise. The story by Daniel Jose Older is grand and exciting. The art by Harvey Tolibao is gorgeous. Altogether, a story that pushes the narrative on the Star Wars Universe, giving way to more ways to explore.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Brings a New Era of Jedi Knights to Comics

In its first contribution to Lucasfilm’s bold Star Wars: The High Republic publishing campaign spanning comics and prose, IDW Publishing has announced the February 3rd, 2021 launch of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, an ongoing comic book series set 200 years before the live-action film continuity.

Writer Daniel José Older, bestselling author of Star Wars: Last Shot, joins artist Harvey Tolibao and colorist Rebecca Nalty for a tale of the Republic’s glory days that — while aimed at middle-grade readers — provides a unique perspective to pivotal moments in the Star Wars timeline that fans of all ages can enjoy.

In Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, the Jedi have long maintained galactic peace… but the coming of a powerful new adversary called the Nihil threatens to end it all. Now, a group of Master Yoda’s young Padawan learners must protect the Republic while learning the lessons that will one day lead them to become powerful Jedi in their own right.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1 will be available with two cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy: Cover A by series artist Harvey Tolibao, and a Retailer Incentive edition featuring art by Yael Nathan.

Star Wars Reveals Project Luminous

Project Luminous” has been revealed! The secret Star Wars project is a new setting for the Star Wars galaxy set 200 years for the events of the Skywalker Saga (The Phantom Menace). The era called “The High Republic” will be featured in novels, comics, and more for both kids and adults! Publishers for Star Wars: The High Republic include Disney Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, IDW Publishing, and Marvel.

The Jedi Order is at its highest and the Republic is in expansion. This is where the stories begin. Think “Jedi Knights of the round table” type adventures set in the world of Star Wars.

The time is hopeful and optimistic and the Jedi are “true guardians of peace and justice.” The stories will allow for exploration of the universe such as pioneer life in the Outer Rim which was seeing expansion.

This period will not overlap any filmed features or series currently planned or in production which gives creators room for new adventures and original characters. Creators include Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, and Charles Soule.
